new to shrooms, need help with ID.
    #2485274 - 03/30/04 10:42 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I am not a regular eater of the shroom, not really by choice, just lack of availability. Its probley nothing but I thought I would check with the pros.
-I live in Oklahoma (first sign its probably nothing)
-I found them growing in the back yard yard after a big rainstorm.
-My dog digs holes in the back yard.
-to keep her from digging I put her poop in the holes she digs.
-I cover my yard in sawdust to keep away mud.
-shrooms are only growing in the places where dog poop is buried
-I feed the dog IAMS.
By now I have shurely assholed myself and am pretty sure I am the butt of a few jokes but all I know about shrooms is they can make you hella trip out, kill you, or do nothing. I wouldnt even think about putting these things in my mouth,(lie) well, i did put em in a bag and save em. I looked at some id charts, but I dont trust myself. I have included some pics. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. I would hate to see a good trip go to waste.
thanks

As the others have already noted, that looks like a Coprinus. At first glance it looks similar to Coprinus atramentarius, which is poisonous if alcohol is consumed within 48 hours or so.

The are probably growing from the sawdust, not the dung. However, several species of Coprinus do grow from dung, and the only way to be certain which kind you have requires a microscope.

Coprinus are also known as "Inky Caps", and by now you probably know why. Unless the mushroom is cooked or dries out quickly enough, it will degenerate into an ink-like slime.

Happy mushrooming!

thanks for the info on the coprinus IAMSinpoopholeus

Ever heard of good shroom in the Oklahoma area? I have tried three or four times, with (what sounds like from info on this site)level 1 symptoms, pretty dissapointed with my past experiences, not bad but i wanna see shit man. Im a real happy dude and it seems like it would be a blast.

I hope you aren't trying to say you've been eating random mushrooms in hopes of getting high, cause thats what it sounded like.

If so, and you value your health/life I STRONGLY suggest you stop doing so.

If they were shrooms you bought, check out the cultivation section and try your hand at growing a few cubies of your own , I don't think there's anything you would be interested in growing wild abundantly in your neck o the woods...

DH
