Maybe he is. I just remember having this movie as a kid and thinking it was strange. I've mentioned it to a few people and they're always like, wtf is that.

Seems common for many people to just be biased against animated movies, I think it likely stems from all the kids cartoons causing people to associate animation/ cartoons with kids shows.

There are a ton of great classic animated movies that if you asked many people about they would have no idea what you are talking about

One of my very favourites as a kid was My Neighbor Totoro, so epic. Especially for a kid. That catbus:eek:

No one ever knew what it was though. Ever. I think a lot of people just see stuff like that as weird Japanese movies and like you said, "kid stuff." Even though they're some of the best and most entertaining I've seen. With storytelling most of all, which oddly you'd think with all the stereotyping and judginess it would imply differently.

I mostly watch "cartoons" now.

Recently I saw The Red Turtle and by the description I thought it sounded stupid.. little to no dialogue? Watched it and the end had me all feeling weird, excellent movie. Made me think that most western movies have far too much dialogue really.

Oh yeah for sure man, so much western stuff lacks any subtlety  It's ridiculous. After watching a lot of abstract cartoons/ anime it's so weird watching western stuff.

They literally point out the whole plot through dialogue, everything that happens they have to point out and talk about  Not with everything clearly but as a whole there is a huge lack of subtlety.

Meanwhile there are cartoons and anime that explain almost nothing, so the viewer has to figure it all out. Leaves way more room for interpretation.

Animation feels way more like "art" to me then most western TV and movies, which are clearly made for people with almost no attention spans

Studio Ghibli made a lot of amazing classics :super: I loved Totoro as a kid, as well as Princess Mononoke and Nausica :awesomenod:

Nausica is one of the greatest Sci Fi's ever made IMO, and the movie only captures part of the story I have heard. Been meaning to read the manga as there is way more too it apparently.

:awesomenod:

Fire and Ice is sweet, as is Conan  fun movie to watch stoned too.

Another cool Bakshi series is Spicy City, it's an "adult" sci fi TV show that only got one short season. It came out just before southpark making it the first animated show for adults.

They would have kept it going but the network wanted more control over the show and Ralph wasn't down so they canceled it

The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle (2009). A group of janitors at a research and development building get addicted to experimental cookies. They lose their minds. Strangeness ensues.

The movie "Brazil" gets touted as a really good trippy movie. Though I've honestly have yet to see it the basis of this movie is reported that this is what happens when you give up your right to privacy to be "protected" from terrorism.
Even your thoughts are not safe.

Directed by the highly acclaimed Terry Gilliam who also made 'Time Bandits'
