Trippy movies * 1
    #24570877 -

I just came across this interesting old sci fi gem:

Quote:
Go to Hell!! is a 1997 Australian adult animated comedy film directed, written, produced, and animated entirely by Ray Nowland, making it one of the only feature-length films animated by a single person. The film re-imagines history in a world where God is actually an alien called "G.D.", who wiped out the dinosaurs and replaced them with apes from his own planet (which eventually evolve into humans), with the Devil being G.D.'s son (called "Little Red"), who appears throughout history in an attempt to thwart G.D.'s plans.

Quote:
Steven Puchalski in Shock Cinema also praised Go to Hell!!, stating that it "crams a wealth of imagination into only 73 minutes."[2] Underground Animation recommended the film to "anyone that’s into weird fucked up animation, adult fans of ‘Blinky Bill’ or anyone interested in the history of underground, solo or Australian animation.

:awesomenod:

Here's where I am watching it: https://www.watchcartoononline.io/go-to-hell

Only 20 minutes in so far but I am hooked, has a really interesting sci fi plot. The animation isn't the best but considering it was entirely done by 1 guy it could look a lot worse

Don't worry about me, I've got all that I need. And I'm singing my song to the sky

You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by

I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me

I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

Once they make it to earth there is a really trippy scene of them smoking a fat joint :tongue2:

Also the start of the movie is pretty random but they introduce some interesting concepts before long.

For anyone who wants a better summary of the plot:

It's about a rich business man who funds a spaceship to colonize another planet. After launching their home planet is destroyed by nuclear war. So the business man takes charge as "god" and decides he will freeze his body so he can guide the generations of people it will take to reach another planet that can support life. His son is "the devil" as well and keeps causing trouble.

Not sure I have seen the thing but some old horror movies are very trippy  I love Evil Dead 3 Army Of Darkness but it's almost a comedy

Also John Carpenter has been a part of a lot of classic movies it seems :super:

If you can get past the animation it has a really great plot, it keeps getting better and better :awesomenod:

Dave Made a Maze sounds pretty abstract :stoned: I will try and remember to check that out

For some reason that reminds me of this random old movie Rubber:

Quote:
A homicidal car tire, discovering it has destructive psionic power, sets its sights on a desert town once a mysterious woman becomes its obsession.

I watched it years ago as a kid, It's pretty much about a psychic tire rolling into a desert town and blowing shit up

John Dies at the End. Watched it on a whim and it was pretty good. Not necessarily a movie to watch while tripping though...

I remember my older cousin showing me that movie when I was about 16. Really made me think. In some ways it could probably be considered my first "trip." It made me think a lot about reality and God and such, our place in the universe. It's one of those movies where you have to be really out of touch to not have something to think about by the time you're done. I love the box of crayons line, pretty much the whole sequence with the man in the boat.

I'm surprised anyone knows about that. I grew up with that on VHS, pretty epic movie from what I remember. I always thought it was kinda obscure.

Ralph Bakshi got fairly famous I thought. He has made a lot of classic animated films :awesomenod: Wizards is definitely one of my favorites.

Maybe he is. I just remember having this movie as a kid and thinking it was strange. I've mentioned it to a few people and they're always like, wtf is that.
