So you think many or most people locked up are innocent.  Do you think they have been wrongfully convicted, didnt do it at all?  Or did they acually do it, but the state didnt prove it beyond reasonable doubt?  Or do you think they did do it but dont deserve jail time or even conviction for their crime?

I think there are thousands who are literally innocent of the crime for which they were convicted.

They are bullied into taking the plea bargin?  Manufactured evidence probably happens, but not as much. ?

How does that play out?  Jury believes the cop over the suspect in a "their words vs mine" situation?  I have little faith in having random people as my jurors.  I think they would be prejudiced against me just for being in the system.

There is a strong bias among jurors against defendants.  It goes something like this:

1.  There is only one person being accused of the crime.
2.  The crime occurred, so:

That person must be the one who did it.

This bias is so incredibly strong that unless a defense attorney can cast doubt that the crime ever occurred or place suspicion on someone else, it's almost certain to be a conviction. 

Alibis are ignored.  Misidentifications are ignored.  Descriptions wildly varying from that of the defendant are ignored.  It's amazing sometimes the convictions that can happen in this system.

I had a client convicted of felony assault on a child even though the mother of the child literally testified that she beat the kid and caused all of the bruising and more.  A friend lost a murder case where the client's cell phone was pinging towers in vegas when the crime occurred in New Jersey. 

Jury trials are like a sick lottery.  That's why I got out of the crim defense game.  Civil trials are far more fun.

Hey Enlil, what's the best few teaching books you'd recommend someone reads if they want to become a self taught attorney? 

I was thinking about helping non-violent drug offenders, but I just want to get a good all round knowledge.

some guy was just killing random people and leaving the evidence lying around, so all the husbands and friends would get blamed
it was the reason they got rid of the death sentence in california or something like that
