Nonsense.  Gold is just another rock.  The only reason it has value is because it was chosen to have value, just like paper money.  That doesn't mean the value is illusory, though.  Money and gold do have value.

They might not always have value, of course, but few things will.  Humans are only on the planet temporarily, and there's no telling what will be of value to the next dominant species.

I agree to an extent about gold. The only thing is now that gold is used in so many aspects of technology it does have real value.

Pretty odd coincidence, gold was worthless until very recently and now it turns ot to be very useful in some ways

Not enough to merit its artificial value, but something rare and useless had to serve that purpose

Low inflation does make sense since the population is growing. Zero inflation and you would get feudalism thats why I don't trust bitcoin it would make wealth inequality far far worse than it is now.

Yes, gold has some uses, but only a very small percentage of gold is used for anything other than hording or decoration.

It's an illusion in the sense that when nobody is willing to accept it it's useless to you. I'd rather have a can of food than a piece of paper that says "lots of food" on it. Yes, gold has some uses, but only a very small percentage of gold is used for anything other than hording or decoration.


The electronic and other uses are more recent though. Before long we might be using most of our available gold for various technologies.

And the more we need to use gold for electronics and other stuff the more real value it will have. Though it doesn't take much gold in most cases I would think.

You're right, and that might be the case, but iron has more actual use than gold at this point.  Most iron is used to build things. 

In any case, all currency is symbolic.  That's the point of having a currency.  It allows us to have specialization of labor without having 1000 trading partners to get what we need.
