It's always been pretty easy when I've done it. I just generally cut the dose in half for a few nights, in half again for a few more, and then to zero. I have withdrawal effects doing so, but nothing serious.

But then again, I generally don't get a lot of withdrawal effects from SSRIs and SNRIs in general. So what works for me may not work for you. I used to quit cold turkey all the time with no major issues. Other people are not so lucky.

I would advise moving immediately/quickly to the lowest dose you can and staying there until you feel like you're ready to stop completely.

Ya i've heard other people don't have withdrawals, But not for me. This is extremely painful. I cant tamper as fast as you did, I feel severe withdrawals from just taking 10mlg out.

Are you sure this "horrible withdrawal" isn't some kind of placebo? (the actual fear of stopping a medication makes it worse than it actually is?) 150 to 140mg is only 10% and 3 weeks is a long time for your brain to normalise at a dose.

I don't mean to cause you any offense with this theory, I think it's just worth throwing out there :strokebeard:

Pain is temporary. It may last for a minute or an hour or a day or even a year but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it will last forever.

Pretty sure thats almost entirely placebo effect, you are probably just very afraid of a rebound depression.
I also had no problems halfing the dose and getting off very fast subsequently.
Especially 3 weeks should make it okay, in 3 weeks I was off it.

Absolutely not placebo. I've been struggling for years to get off completely. I think an individuals chemistry, how long they've been on, support and coping mechanisms available, etc greatly impacts withdrawal symptoms.

Vertigo, nausea, paresthesia... the brain zaps alone are enough for me.. This last attempt consists of tapering off over the course of a year, and I've tried all sorts of classes of stabilizers/antidepressants.

Your regimen is spot on. Alls I would add is a source of choline for sure. Check out DMAE, NAC. My favorite adaptagen herb is Tulsi/Holy Basil. As always do your research/consult your doc.

Effexor is downright nasty to detox from, hope you feel better soon.

I wonder if using herbs and other things to increase serotonin and dopamine levels would be advisable or not.

My partner has ran out a few times and has terrible withdrawal. Like you'd think that shit was heroin. It tends to help her through to load her ass up with these happy brain things.

But I don't know if that's what you should do OP, since you're actually trying to cut down. Are you trying to eventually come off completely or...?

Prescription medication is intended to only prolong illnesses and keep us dumbed down. There is nothing that common sense can't solve, most people's bodies are weak because they lack confidence.

While some of them, in some cases indeed do have these effects, especially the former one, francis dead is just experiencing schizophrenia, quite apparent by what else he posts

Absolutely NOT placebo. Scientist here. Best way is very slow taper or very best start taking long half life drug like prozac first then taper off Effexor as tolerated then taper off prozac. I have seamlessly gotten off of several of those evil ones like Effexor and Cymbalta that way. It's actually a medically accepted way if you have a dr that knows what they're doing.

In a way, I agree with you. People need helped - not pumped full of drugs. But it's a very difficult situation and our medical care is no way near ready to REALLY help people. From my personal, in-depth experience with mental health problems and incredible insight, I've come to the conclusion people are really not "ill" - they just experienced something very traumatic in their childhood. The repression of these traumas and their confused, scared subconscious mind cause these "illnesses" to appear.

Scientist? What the fuck does that mean? Psychologist? Psychiatrist? Microbiologist? Chemist? Googler? I'm not saying anti-depressant withdrawals don't exist, I'm saying OP has meagerly lowered his does AND in a large time frame - his worry and natural panic is probably magnifying it 10x.

Yeah it's just a matter of clarity. Medicine does work but they only make it good enough to keep people alive, instead of neutering the sick like we used to do they want more sick people having sick babies to keep fueling the medical industry and pumping money into the economy.
