Haha awesome its not my thing at all but I like the production quality

Almost forgot to mention this one

Poordream - Ninetynine

Would that be considered IDM?

IDM is by far the shittiest subgenre of electronic music. Its by hipsters, for hipsters

Don't get me wrong, I love experimental electronic music, but IDM is such a pretentious and shitty way to describe your music

One DJ/Producer I've really been digging lately is HullabaloO. His sound design is so unique

You say some incredibly stupid shit but this one takes the cake probably

It's OBJECTIVELY intelligent :kingcrankey:

No. its not

Nothing actually makes it intelligent. Its an opinion of a hipster. You don't know shit

I really dislike jumping into debates on here, usually it's silly and useless, alas I would like to point out something to consider:

And please understand I am not defending the use of calling 1 particular genre "intelligent" the name holds no value to the sound itself.  I did not personally name the genre

weather you can hear it with your particular perception or not, a lot of these IDM producers are rather innovative, pioneering, highly cognitive folk.  People like Aphex and Squarepusher are well known for totally tearing apart a synth, modding it out and putting it backtogether.  They make some of their own gear DIY.  They understand music theory more than most EDM producers I know, they run heaps of live hardware (instead of just pressing play like the other 75%) and they do their thing regardless of trend (usually).  Again, IDM is not inherently "intelligent" more than any other genre, I just cannot fathom how it could possibly rank as the "shittiest" I can think of a good handful of sub-genres that are far more atrocious than any IDM.

No need to be a dick about something you simply don't prefer, just don't click on the thread and find the ones you enjoy maybe?

If anything, that other guy was being a dick. I was just pointing out how much I hate that stupid term (because it sucks)

I get it, some producers are better and more talented than others,  but to categorize it that way is just shitty and pretentious as fuck

I like what some people would consider "IDM". I just will never use that term and speak against it whenever it comes up

Please notice, I did post a mix on this thread so it's not like I'm not just here to troll. i just really hate that term. I love electronic music.

I just prefer to call music by it's real subgenre instead of a category that has no true definition. Calling a track or an artist "IDM" is more of an opinion than a true fact

That seems fair enough,Thank you for making your point in a civil way.  I have no space to think it deserves such a title as well, and I see your position of boycott on the matter actually.

kind of interesting:

The term "intelligent dance music" has been widely criticised by electronic musicians such as Aphex Twin as derogatory towards other styles and is seen by artists such as Mike Paradinas as being particular to the U.S.[6][7] The term is said to have originated in the United States in 1993 with the formation of the "IDM list", an electronic mailing list originally chartered for the discussion of music by a number of prominent English artists, especially those appearing on a 1992 Warp Records compilation called Artificial Intelligence.[8] In 2014, music critic Sasha Frere-Jones observed that the term "is widely reviled but still commonly used".[9]

You're right I was being a dick

But that's only because I want to feel smart for listening to intelligent dance music :highdog:

No but really I agree its a silly name - with basis for the nomenclature - but still a bit trite.

I just more took it as saying that the music itself sucks - which I would take VERY personally, because it's generally awesome sheit

the #1 thing I am constantly reminding people of is that they need to get back in the tank :rofl2:

We've been having a lot of floaters at our place recently. My friend's talking about doing a weekend long darkness retreat combined with our float tanks.
