It's looking like the Arctic ice cap will completely melt this summer
    #24080268 -

For the first time in human history there would be no ice.

This winter has seen record warmth in the artic, with extended periods where the temperature has been above freezing - and melting in winter. If trends continue as they have for the last two years, 2017 will be the year the ice cap melts completely.

We’ve never seen global sea ice levels this low before

Quote:
Something very unusual — and unnerving — is happening on this planet of ours. The chart below shows the total extent of floating sea ice in the Earth’s oceans at any given point in time. Normally it waxes and wanes with the seasons.

But ever since September, as the red line shows, global sea ice has utterly collapsed, following a pattern never seen before. On January 14, total sea ice extent was at its lowest level since satellite records began in 1978 — and likely the lowest it’s been for thousands of years. And yes, global warming is an important part of the story here.

This article was written last summer, before the historic warmth this winter.

Next year or the year after, the Arctic will be free of ice’

Phew, at least we won't have to worry about them melting anymore after they are finished.

It melts every year. That's how seasons work

The arctic ice cap floats in water, so it doesn't affect sea levels.

Thank God it's floating ice. The ocean levels won't rise...

On the upside, easy travel to eastern Europe by ship.

The polar bears are kinda fucked... Maybe it's time to send people with dart gun and carry as many polar bears we can like 500km south or the Artic...

The EPA’s highest-paid employee and a leading expert on climate change was sentenced to 32 months in federal prison Wednesday for lying to his bosses and saying he was a CIA spy working in Pakistan so he could avoid doing his real job.

His fraud had nothing to do with climate change research. Nice try.

The map above is fake. NOAA has almost no temperature data from Africa, and none from central Africa. They simply made up the record temperatures.

B-b-but this one is real! :smug:

Bodhi, if climate change is a hoax why are global sea ice levels at record low levels?

You gotta give it to the guy though. He tried to pull off a huge bluff just so he can play on his iPhone all day.

My Yukon town, Dawson City, uses an ice bridge in winter to cross the Yukon river. This year, the river did not freeze completely and a lot of old timers were commenting out loud how uncommon this has been all their many years.

The north is definitely warming up fast. Not stoked on the Yukon potentially becoming the next California.

Why is the political answer to this a tax on the thing we exhale and trees breath?

Bodhi we have these devices called satellites that can measure the temperature anywhere on the planet.

On a more positive note, first person to train a polar bear to surf is going to make a billion.

Anyway, so yeah this sucks, no surprise to me though.

The Yukon is filled with so many resources though... It's part of Canada's saving bank account. 50 years from now, Northern Canada will start becoming mining towns and eventually turn out to be ghost towns... Hopefully an economy besides the resource will evelop
