It's looking like the Arctic ice cap will completely melt this summer

For the first time in human history there would be no ice.

This winter has seen record warmth in the artic, with extended periods where the temperature has been above freezing - and melting in winter. If trends continue as they have for the last two years, 2017 will be the year the ice cap melts completely.

We’ve never seen global sea ice levels this low before

The arctic ice cap floats in water, so it doesn't affect sea levels.

Thank God it's floating ice. The ocean levels won't rise...

On the upside, easy travel to eastern Europe by ship.

The polar bears are kinda fucked... Maybe it's time to send people with dart gun and carry as many polar bears we can like 500km south or the Artic...

The map above is fake. NOAA has almost no temperature data from Africa, and none from central Africa. They simply made up the record temperatures.

My Yukon town, Dawson City, uses an ice bridge in winter to cross the Yukon river. This year, the river did not freeze completely and a lot of old timers were commenting out loud how uncommon this has been all their many years.

The north is definitely warming up fast. Not stoked on the Yukon potentially becoming the next California.

The Yukon is filled with so many resources though... It's part of Canada's saving bank account. 50 years from now, Northern Canada will start becoming mining towns and eventually turn out to be ghost towns... Hopefully an economy besides the resource will evelop
