Based on my limited understanding of economic principles this seems like a horrible idea. The value of goods and services seems to be dependent upon the existence of a distribution of incomes. If you give a lot of people the same amount of money, the prices of goods, like housing, will simply rise, so that the people making more money than the basic income level can no longer afford the same housing they used to be able to afford, and the people receiving that specific amount of money can't afford the things that that amount of money was supposed to make them be able to afford.

The fact is unemployment will only continue to increase as automation removes the need for most human labor (hint: trucking industry is next).
Eventually a standard living allowance will be implemented by most first world countries

Fin plus land makes Finland.
A shark has a fin but lives in water, not on land.
It is the top predator in the sea.
Imagine what it would do on land.
That is Finland.

Seems like currency itself, then, and not the fact that certain people lack enough of it, is the real hurdle to be overcome.Good luck pitching that to folks with a lot of it.

The problem isn't currency, it's the lack of a need for labor.

Right but that only creates a problem because when people don't have jobs they don't have the requisite currency to purchase goods and services. Thus if you remove currency from the equation and simply have a system where in goods and services are rendered to people, on some unknown basis, perhaps need, the problem is resolved.

Currency actually ensures a slightly fairer distribution of resources than none at all would in that situation though. It quantifies how much each person would receive, and no matter how much that state can provide in such a welfare state, there will be a citizen market regardless. Barter would be far less reliable of a trade system than currency would be.

The system is going to change to one whereby everyone's human needs for health, security and happiness are assured and taken care of first and foremost, the concept of money will be replaced with a completely different system whereby people are rewarded for their actions which benefit the rest of humanity, such as teachers and doctors. Footballs players won't be paid as much, I'm afraid. But everyone's basic human needs will be taken care of and people will be employed based on what they are good at and want to do. Everyone will be expected to contribute to the system in some way if they want to remain a part of it.
But the concept of debt is one of slavery and our current money is an outdated archaic concept.. we need something new and fresh. Lets call them Earthbuks. Money will not go away, it will just be transformed.
Once all the criminals are held accountable for their crimes against humanity and we start anew, we need to have our new system ready to put in place. Or maybe it's already there?!!

It's not communism it's socialism It can work too, and does work if you have strong incentives for working on top of the standard income.
What shroomism says is acually our greatest hope of keeping mass homelessness/poverty, globally, at bay moving forward into a future where automation removed the need for most work. It's closer then we think.
