IMO, his Novelty Theory describes the descent into a black hole. Don't need all the numbers and confusing theories and theoretical jargon. I think you can figure out the secrets of the universe with just common sense.

Unfortunately the "eschaton" never happened. And I think he may have lied about not knowing about the Mayan calendar. The amount of research and anthropology he did and knew makes me think he knew about it.

i agree that one need not describe the universe with math -- although, math as a universal language, is pretty darn good !  it is been most useful for me to learn all types of ways of looking at the world -- math, shamanism , the other paths, etc., -- but, as far as math goes - to learn it some ( and related, logic-space- etc. based disciplines ), then sort of let the subconscious go from there .. . . . as, after all, there are roughly 1.25 trillions of neurons or at least, synaptic connections in the brain ( ya, each and every brain, save a few [ literally, a few ] ),. . . and, go from there -- also. . . as mentioned, elsewhere, the brain makes a few hundred calculations every second, etc., and computes calculus on the fly ( pun accidental and appreciated ),. . . for instance, in throwing a ball etc. . .

basically, everything that helps etc.

so i was also thinking of this. . an' novelty theory how he mentions density of connection - including how the human neocortex is one of the most ( with the above phrase,... ) connected things in the universe. . .
