Worm in my wbs

Anyone else find weird stuff in grains?

Soaked 24 hours. while sifting through i saw this bugger. ew.

That's a maggot. Seal your dry grains up for long term storage and soak in a closed containers to keep flies out. I'm sure there's more eggs in that batch that will get scorched. Check your bulks to make sure they are still good before the swarm hits.

I have cats so everything is sealed in plastic tubs. i always use a large stock pot for my wbs. always covered. This is a fresh grow so I have no spawn/bulk lying around. thanks for the advice!

and im sure you ment 'spawn' not swarm. or am i about to get a maggot plague?:eek:

Cool as long as you don't see anymore maggots. They will turn into flies in about a week. I was referring to a swarm of flies BTW.

Kinda OT but similar in a way. I found that spent WBS sub made an excellent food source for use in redworm or Euro nightcrawler bins and would provide a few more fruits that would be completely without color which I chalked up to lack of light in the bins.

i did the same with red wrigglers but the myc stunk too bad after a few days to keep it up.

If it sours like that it needs more aeration and time to decompose before working into other compost. That shit can smell pretty rough in hot temps too which attracts gnats out the ass.  :flyzapper:
