I looked in one of my jars that failed to germinate, and what do I see? two little... worms... or maggots... or SOMETHING.
They were about a mm long, and slightly yellowish. When I pressed hard on the jar (its a softish plastic) they reacted by MOVING! Pretty freaky. These are BRF jars and I tried as best I could to seal the tops with alluminum foil. What could these be?
I also have some other contam, its light brown, almost white, but not stark white so it can't be mycellium.
Only one of my jars germinated (out of 5) so at least I have some mycellium to compare infections to. What could these things be?
take a look at it, the worms sound like gnat larva. Just toss it. The other I know I've never seen before but may be the cinnamon mold they talk about in the FAQ. I'd toss that one too regardless. Better luck next time, try try again...
At least one germinated though.
