fuzzy bases are normal for high-humidity. That 'contam' sounds like an abhorted mushroom. How long ago did it stop growing? You can munch abhorts w/ black caps, just don't let them get too rotten.
Oh, and the 'spotted fruits'.. where is the spotting? It sounds like the mushrooms are just dropping spores. Is this your first grow? Are the spots purplish-black? It's unusual for a contam to attach a health fruitbody.Edited by egghead on 06/06/01 08:42 PM.

it might just be spores now that i think about it! it's only really present under the open capped fruits. I'm gonna go check again. But in the meantime, what type of contams are BLACK??? And which are gonna kill me/make me ill?

what type?? all kinds, you have aspergillus niger as a black pathogenic mold, there are clostridium species wich have black spots, than with the right substrate the staph. aureus has black colonies, but I doubt it would grow in a jar.
I will have 2 take a look in the TMC and my own food micro book!
As I have been very busy last weeks, I haven't had time to do something usefull!
