Did you know that aspirin is much safer than other NSAID's?
    #23511375 -

:themoreyouknow:

Low-dose aspirin is often prescribed to promote heart health. Other NSAID's are known to increase the risk of heart attack or stroke.

http://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/fda-strengthens-warning-that-nsaids-increase-heart-attack-and-stroke-risk-201507138138

Can you believe that some obscure NSAID which was on the market for a few years caused 140,000 heart attacks?

As long as you take aspirin on a full stomach with a full glass of water, I'd say the proof is in the pudding that it's substantially safer than taking any other NSAID. Other NSAID's such as ibuprofin may be slightly better at pain management, but at what cost?

With all the research and knowledge on the subject, I can't see myself using any NSAID's for pain management except for aspirin.

What do you Shroomerites make of this?

I take low dose aspirin or (if I'm out) another NSAID every day to lower my risk of blood clots

I use aleve. Aspirin does fuck all for my pain; so I don't take it.

I was under the impression that aspirin does a number on the liver, especially when you happen to be consuming other things that also do numbers on the liver.

I've thrown up blood after taking aspirin. Also, daily aspirin use causes excessive bruising in a lot of people. I'll stick to aleve. Low dose aspirin doesn't do shit for pain, anyways.

Low dose aspirin is a quarter of an aspirin. It has no pain relieving or fever reducing potential. My previous MD had me taking one every other day as a heart precaution even though I Have no heart symptoms including all tests. Then I read a study showing there is no advantage to low dose aspirin except people who already had heart attacks, so I stopped taking them. She said I was probably right,
Comparing low dose aspirin is nonsensical, NSAIDs are potentially liver dangerous because people take them in high enough doses to kill their joint pain. I know a guy who takes 6 alleves  when he gets out of bed every morning so he can work.
ASpirin is a stomach killer, but not at low dosages, but comparing one baby aspirin every other day or every day, has no relationship with older people who depend on NSAIDs, to work all day every day. Odds are they are going to ruin their liver or go bankrupt. It's an issue that I don't think young people have any clue about.
My own opinion is that at least ibuprophen and Alleve do something for you. IMO Tylenol is worthless and has the same risks.

I could've sworn I saw a recent study that said NSAIDs cause heart attacks... Hmmm ill have to see if I can dig that up. None for me though, I always get prescribed hydros because I'm allergic to aspirin... But I hate pain pills so I have a huge pain pill stash for absolutely no reason.

ahh ok I see now it's the non aspirin ones, I thought I had read conflicting information that it was the aspirin itself but I guess it was pretty much the same as the link.

Im supposed to be taking an aspirin everyday because i cut my brachial artery and the docs had to take a vein out of my leg and put it in my arm. The blood flow isnt as strong so they told me i needed to take it to help prevent clotting. I dont think its necessary as i havent been taking it for years now.

I did for a little awhile after the incident then quit. I dont think its great on your stomach. Whats considered a low dose?

Tylenol is acetaminophen, aleve is naproxen, Advil is ibuprofen and Aspirin is acetylsalicylic acid I believe. Of all of those I can only take Tylenol so no, they are definitely not the same.

I usually refuse to take any meds, there are natural solutions for pain. You're right to be worried, Tylenol is hell on your liver but know that any of the named medications have their own side effects when used long term. Aspirin and ibuprofen both have been known to cause ulcers when used long term.

I can't do aspirin. My meds interact with it in a bad way. The doc warned me about it from the get go. Once in a blue moon I'll have an Advil. Like maybe once every 2-3 years.

Tylenol+Aspirin is my goto if I have a strong enough headache (and am not drinking/hungover), they work if you use them for their intended purposes.
