Jazz
    #2348867 - 02/18/04 07:08 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I'm starting to get more and more into jazz, but I dont really know where to start when it comes to finding music. I really enjoy jazz with saxaphone and piano, and I have a couple songs, but my "collection" is still pretty sad. Any recommendations?

AccuRadio has good jazz stations. You should check those out.

can't go wrong with a few of the greats:
John Coltrane - Giant Steps
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue, Bitches Brew, Birth of the Cool
somethin more current that kicks much ass----
Medeski Martin & Wood - Shack Man, or Uninvisible

I don't listen to a lot of Jazz, but I really like Kurt Elling. I got to see him live once, he has a really great voice.

--------------------
The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame".

In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience.

And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him.

"Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

Wynton Marsalis Live at the Village Vanguard is only $30 for a 7 disc set at Best Buy. Thelonius Monk for piano and Charles Mingus for the bass. Look for labels on the cds that say jazz masterpiece.

Don't let his personality get in the way of his music. Lots of great artists have been self-righteous assholes. Look at Guns n' Roses or Metallica. Both of them great bands filled with self-righteous assholes.
