Just finished reading this book. It was interesting, and like you say, they make a good case that this field will become bigger in the future.

Yeah I have no idea whether this research will ever lead to something marketable, and the authors don't comment on that at all.

They actually do mention the possibilty of using these quantum effects that allow for more efficient energy transfer during photosynthesis in solar energy technology. If we could understand better how photosyntesizing organisms do it, we could apply it to our own tecnology.

Also they reference Werner Herzog and The Beach Boys, so there's that.

Thanks for the correction.

It could have the potential for being a rather important book after all is said and done.  Clearly the problem of overspecialization is a vexing one.  How do you find people who have Ph.D.'s in both physics and biology?  I get the impression that there aren't many.  That seems to be creating a huge bottleneck that will have to be addressed one way or another if the field of quantum biology is to be addressed in any effective and serious way.  Glad you found it interesting.

There will most likely have to be more collaborations as between the two authors of the book, one a molecular geneticist and one a physicist. Also, if the field gains more traction, there will probably be dedicated graduate programs at some point in the future.

Good point.
