I'm going to be on doxycycline for 1 to 3 months. The Doctor advised me to take as many probiotics as I can tolerate while on the doxy, but didn't recommend any strains or brands. What do you guys use?

Anything with the highest number of live bacteria. I'm a cheap skint and choose Holland and barrets brand, acidophilus with pectin, 3 billion bacteria.
I used to have issues with bacterial infections and ibs. These probiotics have really helped.
Also work great if have to take antibiotics.
Take them during meals but not at the same time as medication that affects them.
If your bacteria levels are going to be affects.. I'd suggest 2 capsules, 3 or 4 times a day... but more or less work out what's enough to keep you feeling well.

did your doctor happen to mention pre-biotics to you, as well? if not, that would be worth looking into, as they will help sustain naturally occurring intestinal flora
i would highly recommend adding spirulina, in conjunction with chlorella, as far as a pro-biotic, but there are tons to look into

Yeah, I bought some s. boulardii that has a prebiotic in. I'm thinking I'm going to get a few individual strains to add one by one to see what effects they have on me. probably going to go with acidophilus, bifidum, and lactobacillus. They seem to be the most reasearched for use with antibiotics. I have Colitis also, so my stomach is really picky on what I can tolerate.
What is the purpose of the spiruLina and chlorella? Are they probiotics?

I used to drink a lot of kefir on antibiotics. The taste isn't that bad when you're used to it. Easier than eating plain greek yogurt imo.
