Insects and pain

Very interesting read. Alot of it is still theory, and what not. Thought some of you might find it interesting.

I believe insects do not feel pain, instead that they just have instincts and know that certain things can produce unwanted consequences from habit or previous experiences. That's why if you put your finger above an ant they tend to move faster. At least that what I believe.

Because people go well if a giant finger got above you would you move or look at it? Well I'd move because I've had experience with squishing ants.... without it yes I might just look at it, but I bet the ant can somehow sense that a giant thing blotting out the sun is somehow bad, instincts, maybe that same ant has ran from much larger predators before etc...

I agree.
My interpretation of this is that insects are conscious(externally aware) but they do not have a conscience(internally aware).

Internal awareness (in my opinion) arises from the neocortex as perception and is present in hominids as well as service mammals such as guide dogs/dolphins.

You're painting a vast group of organisms with a very broad brush. Not all insects have equivalent levels of intelligence or awareness, just compare behavior of Tiger Beetles to Fruit Flies...

There are different intensities of conscious experience but I consider even a virus to experience consciousness as it expresses external awareness in it's ability to land on cells and inject RNA.

What I don't think insects or a virus have is the capability of developing a conscience.

They can't form perceptions because their brains don't have a well developed neocortex like some mammals and hominids do.

Brain composition and even size are poor indicators of intelligence, awareness or consciousness. Here is a rather in depth explanation.

Also, not all viruses are RNA, some can even change from RNA to DNA in different parts of their lifecycle.

when i spray spiders with the spider poisons they feel it.  they run around like their skin is on fire while rubbing their face with their nasty legs.  I admit im sick and enjoy it.  I feel bad and whatever but I really hate them a lot.

they dont have advanced nervous systems but they feel stuff.  Plus too they hurt on the inside when you say mean things to them.

Service animals like guide dogs and marine mammals have been trained with various methods including model/rival techniques and intelligent disobedience and they display intelligent behaviours.

They can be taught to distinguish between explicit(logical) and implicit(individual) perceptions and experiences in order to make the best decision about the outcome of a scenario.
