If you could hang it all up and relocate, where would you live?
    #23215464 -

Lately I've just had this feeling that it's time to pack up and move.  Not as in relocate to a different city and do the exact same hamster wheel shit I do now, but I mean move someplace and spend my time cycling, cooking, relaxing, golfing, learning a different language, etc, etc, etc - shit like that.

There are a lot of places that come to mind that I've previously visited and absolutely adore in the USA - Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, Boston, Rocky Mountains and a few European ones...Amsterdam, San Sebastian, Venice.  All of these locations would be fucking amazing and I think I could move there at a moments notice

But lately I've been thinking how cool it would be to move to a South American city.  The culture and food look dope, it's pretty fucking cheap, and I feel like it would be a relatively easy transition as oppose to living somewhere like in the far east for example.

So after all that said, I think my choice would be Lima, Peru, even thought I've never even stepped foot on the continent yet.  So much history and culture, the food looks amazing, its near the beach, it's super fucking cheap, and the weather looks pretty solid year round.

How would you be able to do those things (cooking, golfing, relaxing etc) without working?

Maybe teach English.  From what i'v read online, that's a pretty high demand position throughout most South American cities.  It doesn't pay much, but apparently you can live in Peru for dirt cheap.  I'm talking under $1000 a month.

And if I'm being honest with myself the chances of me seeing 60 yrs old are plenty slim so between that and the money I've got saved now, I think I could move there tomorrow work a little on the side and live a pretty comfortable life.

I live near Austin, I'm quite happy with where I'm at except there's no mountains and snow here. Those are the only reasons I want to leave this area eventually.

I've always thought the Canary islands were cheap, and the inexpensive airfare from there to the rest of Europe and Africa doubles the attraction.

I'm sure OP is street smart if he's already done this much traveling.
That being said, Peru is an exceedingly dangerous place to live. A HUGE portion of the kinda videos that you see on "gore sites" are in Peru.

I would definitely do your research before moivng to South America. A lot of South America is really currupt and dangerous.

Living in Brazil would be so dope thou!

But english teaching jobs would be more like Peru or Columbia. I would personally take Chile since its near the ocean and lil crime comes from there.

Well fuck. I don't think I'll make it this year but I want to do a backpacking trip next year and bounce around the continent for a few weeks.  Hopefully I'm not hitting anyone up for ransom during that excursion.

So, within 10 years you'd be royally fucked.

maybe Nicaragua. I might be getting an opportunity to work in real estate and product manufacturing with a customer of mine. He lives there and got a government contract and it looks legit.

Idk man, I know it's cliche for a drug forum but living in Amsterdam would be cool

Here in the states I'd move to Jackson Hole WY if I won the lottery (doesn't seem like a place in WY would be one of the most expensive places to live in America but it is, and it's a fucking amazingly epic place IMO)

Or maybe Santa Barbara CA or Sedona AZ

Santa Barbara & Sedona, next to Jackson Hole, for me, are the two most beautiful towns I've ever been through

Breathtaking

Waking up in any of those three towns and calling them home would be like a dream (as cheesy as that sounds)

It's nice that you say that about Amsterdam, and I'm even a tiny bit proud that we have such fame of name in the wider world, but compared to the other places you mention we have a pretty dull natural environment. Just grass, clay, and polder, all of it completely flat. More than 3 quarters of the year the climate is so so.

Remember we are not really a mega city, just a big village. If I take a bicycle I can cross the whole town from east to west within 1 hour. Imagine if I tried that in London, or any other super city, I'd need half a day. Moreover, the parts of Amsterdam that I think you'd find most attractive is just the old center and a small number of hip quarters nearby. The biggest part of town would be mostly uninteresting.

The coffee shops are great of course, but with US legalization you guys are one step ahead of us now. There's no dabbing, wax, or oil here, at least not in the shops. Cannabis is in a gray area here, we call it "tolerated", but certainly not legal as it is becoming elsewhere now. It is nice however that when the cops catch you with ten pills and half a gram of coke they will just wave their index finger at you. In the more provincial parts of the country they may even take it away. Chances of prosecution are low, unless you misbehave. If you carry a kilo of weed, you're in more trouble.

Finally, I never really get what foreigners find so attractive in the red light district. I see a nasty picture of human trafficking, slave trade, and female exploitation. Ok, not all of it, but I prefer my women free and independent. Oh well, the party goes on and I don't want to spoil it. I just have my own tastes.

Still, I do recommend you come over at least once in your life, stay here for a few weeks in summer, july and august can be good.

Love, Hanz.

I wish I could live in Jackson Hole, it would be so fucking sweet. Hopefully I'll find a seasonal job there some summer, and then never leave.

For sure, man. It's definitely on my bucket list. Overall it just seems like such a unique place to an outside observer such as myself.

Jackson and that entire region that surrounds it is just so freaking epic. I love that place so much. Been several times and it never gets old...can't wait to go back as a matter of fact.

I would move to New Zealand. Preferably somewhere near some good and quiet surf.

The Canaries are not cheap. Islands usually aren't, because of the need to import everything by sea or air.
