These are all for the competition, not that I'm going to win anything grafting trichs, it'll be good practice. Maybe I should get some seeds that actually would benefit from grafting...

Kimura's Spiny Giant x SS02

Pach x Pach Monstrose, Bridgesii, Huanco x ss02 and...one other one...

Others I don't feel like checking the labels

My lophs, under the same light, doing quite well

Ok, first report (maybe a bit premature, but whatever):
Here are 5 of the 6 grafts just before they were exposed for the first time, picture just so you can see how I go about grafting to tougher Peres stock.

Upon inspection, of the original six three had taken, one is a good maybe and two failed that were subsequently regrafted as the seedlings seemed to be good. Here's one of the good ones:

This is day 16 from sowing. Get busy, people!

Sowed lopho seeds today since my first batch had zero germination.

Saw a few sprouts today after 8 days... Gonna wait about a week to graft so my stocks grows a bit longer.

With deep breathing and shaking hands, today I lifted the first sprout, sliced it and mated it with the stock.  I put it in a bag to keep it humid while it attempts to bond - probably leave it in for a couple of weeks under fluoros.

Hopefully the graft takes.

Next time you want to graft a small scion on a large stock you should first cut and 'sharpen' the cactus then allow it to callous for a few days. By sharpen I mean cut the sides like you did. After the cactus has callous you cut just the very top and graft.

The reason you should do this is because the stock tends to cave in a bit and that deepening may push the scion off the union. If you callous the cut first there will be less exposed flesh on the stock preventing excessive change on the graft location.

That is not to say grafts do not take if this is not preformed.

Thats ballsy though. I would never do such a small scion to that big stock. I used to do it way back when i started and didn't know better but not now. Though i wouldnt fail to often i still wpuldnt try it now.

LOL - It´s all I had - OK !!!  We don´t all live in the US and have access to massively stocked suppliers. We will see if it works - if it doesn´t - I´ll try something else.
Grafting is an alien black art to me, although I have bought a few grafted plants.
Ferrel and shaman - your comments are appreciated - and I will take good note for the next attempt - thanks for the help.

I too envy the supply of plants in America. Canada has as much as North Dakota all together out it seems.

I just got a bunch of cool seeds in a trade, will be sowing soon
