Lophophora is way simpler since they are much bigger at birth.

I've discovered a little trick to steady the shakes. I used this technique during my welding days, since I get the shakes.

What I do is with my left hand I hold the scion, then I hold or more like "rest" my hand against my chest. My elbow makes a chicken wing out of my arm, imagine if you were doing the chicken dance.

Anyway, with my left hand against my chest i'm not shaking the scion. Then with my right hand I hold the pot the peres is in (I use smaller pots that fit in my hand) and with my index and forfinger I hold the pereskiopsis just below the fresh cut. This give me great control of the peres. Now with my scion steady, and good control of the peres, they go together like butter.... no matter how much kratom I've been drinking

This has reduced my failure rate down to near zero. You guys should give it a try, its surprisingly effective, even with 2 day old seedlings. If only my large fingers numb of carpal tunnel could hold them little things properly

You can graft a 2 week old strombo if you've got some practice. That's how long I waited for aztekium... would wanna try that even smaller cactus "b..." something don't wanna search. The issue for me was never shaking but making a smooth cut rather then squashing them, either with the blade or my fingers holding them to cut.

I've got zero germination on my 200 L seeds so gonna try to get some fresh seeds and try again.

@ Modern- I'm sure it can be done but I won't even try. Or will I? :hmm:

I may give it a go but I can't do anything without a caffeine fix. I did an Astrophytum caput-medusae seedling last week that I am almost sure stayed stuck. First one too out of many that I've tried.

Looks pretty set but no real growth.

Dude you CANNOT be serious.

A 2 week old strombo and aztekium are nearly microscopic. How would you even grasp them???

Yep 2 weeks old to let them be a 'stable' size as they swell/grow a little bit after germination. I was grafting most of my valdezii at 1 month due to finding out I suck at growing aztekium own root lol. At around 2-3 months old I had mass dying off my seedlings.

Damn Bro :jawdrop:

I can't graft that young for some reason as they dry up before they can take (within just a day of 2 at max)

karode13's cling wrap method does the trick. I leave them 2-3 days under cling wrap.

Nice I guess I'll give it another try here soon!

I have yet to sow any seeds for the competition but I'm still gonna join in here soon.

I was waiting for my order to come in but I ordered from the Czechs so there's no telling when they'll be ready to send out.

I guess I'll sow the rest of my Trich seeds I had saved up here soon but I only have very few of them left and I don't like ordering online.

So don't count me out of the competition guys  I just had to give you guys a good head start so you'd all have a chance to beat me

You all know I'm Just joking with you guys  I actually suck at grafting IMHO :frown:

I did alright with my method, most of them made it quite well past the first year. I think I took the plastic wrap away at one and a half years, maybe? If it wasn't for the f#$%#"# cat, I would have a good number of 3mm seedlings by now.

Try keeping them in their baggies for longer, and pasteurize the mix before sowing (I'm currently doing it by putting the mix in the oven for half an hour with the thermostat at around 100C or a tad lower).

Just to check in the competition: seeds were sown yesterday, April 1st, at around 19:00 GMT. Lots of Lophophora. I will be sowing some more species in the coming week - Turbinicarpus, Strombocactus and a few other.

I'm about to get some seeds sown very soon and I guess this is the place to document the sow but I was wondering if there are other threads to post pics for each category?

Got some seedlings popping up

These are Kimura's Spiny Giant x SS02

These are ss02 x huanco I believe

They are all labelled I just can't remember from the pictures

Hopefully my peres are ready before too long, I definitely think I got them wet too early. Ferrel tells me to keep them humid but everything I read online says that the only way people manage to rot them is by having the soil too wet and keeping them humid

People rot peres? I bought my cuttings from a guy that grows them in water. Straight water. I've also rooted around 150 cuttings in the last 4 months in super wet soil, misted twice daily, in a humidity dome. Mine dry out if left out. I know it's tough at first, with nothing growing, no way of knowing if you're doing the right thing, but you're doing fine

First sprouts [Re: drakenov] * 1
    #23096212 -

I lifted the plastic bag from my pot today - found six sprouts of various sizes - out of the 10 seeds sown on 24 March.

I will leave the bag in place for another week and think about grafting then.  The seeds were taken from my Astrophytum caput-medusae last autumn - good to find that they are viable.
