If it is old, you may need to rebuild it. They sell rebuild kits for them at the aquarium store. They can be found for almost every model of pump. It is not a hard job and they give you an extra filter to put in the bottom. Worth it, IMHO. A friend found perlite to be the quieter method of the two. :wink:

hehehe.. i?m going to try a perlite substitute.. i?m gonna use expanded argile balls... i?ve PC them just to avoid troubles.. i?ll post my results using this method

I don't believe that the "bong" type air pump setup adds much moisture. Without perlight, I couldn't get the walls to sweat.

I think only real benefit of Air pump, is to save from having to fan out the terrarium daily. Plus since its filtered thru the water in the bong, it should be a little more sterile than fanning it out.

LISTEN UP! just spray your setup a couple time a day (make sure you have a drip shield) with a hand sprayer. it works just as good as perlite or an ultra sonic. FOAF tried both. fan your setup each time as well, and you'll be golden.
