What the fuck is an obsidian scalpel? Just get regular box cutter blades. Way cheaper and they do the trick just fine.

Oooor, a pack of 100 razor blades. They break in half do you get 200 blades, super sharp, all for about $12. Pretty much a life time supply

Hey homie, start introducing more light. Start slow, at about 1.5 feet. Move the light an inch closer every day, use a florescent and then keep it at 10 inches. If anything starts turning pink back off a few inches for a few days. They are pretty etoliated and would love some light.

Looking like you had some really viable seeds! Right on

Sounds like I didn't need to waste my breath lol, I hate how deformed lophs get if they etoliate. Luckily once they graft they recover

Grafted my first plants yesterday, six 11 day old Loph seedlings. I went out of my comfort zone for this, as the seedlings were way younger than anything I've ever grafted and the stock was some of last year's cuttings (a lot less than tender, if you know what I mean). Let's hope they'll take.

I love sowing astros. They sprout sooo fast. 2-3 days for the first ones

So this is what I've done. 2 lophs. And those I bank on. All tips cut left to root.

I lost the one on the blade. Totally gone and I hope it sticks to the tile somewhere. But one of those 2 still had the seed hull. Very young and very easy. Let's hope good comes of it.

Don't have any lophs or astro seed but I sowed a bunch of other species today so I might as well do some grafting with you guys.

4/14/2016 I sowed:
Ariocarpus scaphorostrus
Geohintonia mexicana
Pelecyphora aselliformis
Pelecyphora strobiliformis
Turbinicarpus flaviflorus
Turbinicarpus gracilis
Turbinicarpus panorotti
Turbinicarpus pseudopectinatus
Turbinicarpus subterreanus "zaragosae"

Very nice. It will be interesting to see if Pelecyphora can be pushed by grafting.

4/14/2016 I sowed:

Pelecyphora aselliformis
Pelecyphora strobiliformis

I had stacks of Pelecyphora (syn. Encephalocarpus) strobiliformis - they just reproduce SO prolifically - here are just a few of them -

I have given dozens away, now growing all around the globe.

But I have NEVER seen a fruit or a seed.  Seeds seem to just fall into the soil out of the ovule, (or even bounce into adjacent pots).  And I believe they are self-fertile.

Fairly slow growing, not as fast as peyote, the largest are now about 7 cm in diameter, about as big as they get, according to Pilbeam and Weightman.

My peres are starting to show some fresh growth!

My loph seedlings are popping up! I counted 25, so definitely half have sprouted which is awesome. Unfortunately I had to move them all upstairs today, and I know that they don't appreciate being jostled a bunch.

I didn't take pictures but at least 4/5 if not 5/5 of all the different trich hybrid seeds I sowed have germinated. The pach x pach monstrose is only 3 or 4 but they were slower. What's the likelihood of any of those being monstrose? 1/4? 1/16? I haven't studied my biology lately
I feel like it's something like each seed has a 1 in 4 chance of having the trait right?

Yes, ferrel - they do it all by themselves.
Lophophora I find are also pretty good at self-seeding, as are Ariocarpus, although their offspring I find are mostly hybrid.

But nothing compares with Pelecyphora strobiliformis for sheer quantity of sprouts.
