Re: How fair is life? How hard is life? [Re: Loaded Shaman] * 1
    #23046027 -

Thanks Loaded Shaman, but anyone can help people in any capacity that they happen to be in whether you're locating something for someone in Whole Foods, or are an honest plumber/electrician/carpenter/mason/etc. Oprah buys cars for people, and has other philanthropic endeavors. Then there are people rich and not rich who screw everyone they can. My former pool-repair man seemed righteous at first, then he installed a used, rusted timer box that didn't work. I returned it but he kept the labor fee. My brother screwed me out of our parents' inheritance (their condo). I don't know if he coerced them or if they acceded, but he took over their payments and they must have deeded it over to him. He sold it for 6-figures and I didn't see a penny. He makes a lawyer's 6-figure salary and I was in education. Now retired, I really really could've used that money. He helped someone - himself. This is an up-close-and-personal example. Lawyers CAN help people, but they don't do it for kindness-sake, they do it for money, and they don't have to be transformed by kindness themselves. Yet a lawyer DID plea-bargain a childhood friend down to one year in prison where a jury trial might have resulted in a sentence of 77 years. A surgeon can often be a sociopath and perhaps even a sadist, but the evil impulse channelled properly can save lives. Putting one's abilities in the service of the Good is everyone's moral obligation IMO, even though there is quite obvious immorality everywhere. I am trying to shift my world-hating former Gnostic view to a more Kabbalistic view towards Tikkun - Restoration of the world.
