Hoarding info? Sorry bro. I don't condone actions. I just point the way.
:justno:
Anywho, as long as you have pereskiopsis ready and good to go, you should have no problems grafting. I've grafted at a day old from germination. It's super easy man.

I got a tough road though. Strombocactus? Never succeeded before and I doubt I will now.

:youthemandawg: you will homes, you will

I've got a wack of grafts now. Needed to regraft some due to shotty worksmanship, but haven't lost a scion yet, and I have about 10 lophs and 15 - 20 trich grafts.

I really enjoy grafting. I found a trick (trich? har har) for my shaky hands, something I learnt during my welding days due to my shakes. Smooth sailing since.

Actually I lied, I failed at both my albino graft attempts. One actually took, then I dropped the other plant pot on it and perfectly squished it. probably wouldn't have survived anyway.

What is faster, grafting right from germ, or wait till first spines show, or even longer? those tiny seedlings don't seem like they would recover very quickly, but I'm more than happy to be wrong.

It's not too hard if you have steady hands and good eyesight. Imagine grafting a Lophophora seed - that's how tiny the seedlings are at a few weeks of age.

I shake like an old lady and can't focus anything closer than 8" - with reading glasses! - and managed to graft a few Aztekium. If I did it, you will do it!

You may not have failed. Sometimes the same genetic anomaly that made them albino simply won't allow them to pull through.

This I would like to know as well. Maybe I'll test it.

I will donate this flowering age own roots with a touch of sunburn Strombocactus disciformis, 5cm wide to the Best Grafting category 1st place if the winner is in the EU, failing that it goes to 2nd place, and failing that, I'll find some entrant to send it to by the end!

My peres stocks look like complete shit but I do have a few different trich seeds left that I can sow and one variety that produces all those Albinos so hopefully I can at least get my foot in the door here for the time being.

I'll post it up as soon as I plant the seeds and keep it updated :super:

Do you have them in high humidity? I feel that's the only true way to get soft supple sappy growth thats conducive to grafting. My one very woody mother is in the humidity dome and is putting out very nice cuttings. I currently have 3 cuttings so far.

You get many plants to graft on to. As long as there is an areole you ll get a plant. Cut to half inch and place in soil. Your well on your way.

One of the cuts i took has roots. 2 more to go.

I missed the starting gun - but sowed some seeds today, 24 March - taken from my Astrophytum caput-medusae last autumn.  I took a pic - just to start a photographic record - but no point posting a pic of a pot of soil !!

Apparently one node is plenty to start a new pereskiopsis.
