I think the key to rapid increase will be a system that's programmed with knowledge of how it's various parts can work, and then using visual and other input data, and given a specific objective - uses learning logistic systems to determine the most efficient way of getting across said objects, or interfacing with them to achieve it's objective. This style of programming will be vastly more versatile, and efficient. Of course bi-pedal is just a small subset of usefulness in robotics. I think that we will encounter many more flying drone style robots and wheeled/ground roving types on the roads in the shorter term. Or it can just be built in place somewhere really to do most tasks they're best at.

Maybe one of those pressurized hoses to clean your car can destroy the robots..

It is crazy that we live in an age where thinking about destroying robots is not just navelgazing science fiction.

Anybody heard about that guy who trains eagles to take out drones?
Amazing!

Let's take the other side of the robot argument. I think it would be awesome if they took over. We would all be able to just chill at home without having to waste our lives working.

I say, bring the robots!

What if the elites who own the robots decide the 99 percent are just vermin who need to be eliminated?

do you somehow think you'll be buying a robot that will be going to work for you
and bringing you your paycheck each week? dont you think that large companies will
be buying their own robots to do the job you'd like your robot to do. how exactly
will you be earning your money, your dream seems like a guaranteed road to
starvation and in a few more years, the robots will be out panhandling just to
take that away from you as well... and they'll be much cuter

You sure are thinking of some fucked up things man, you should stop it.

Unless it had a firearm. Even a Taser.

A high powered magnet would destroy the fuck out of a robot like that.
My father had a tube full of donut shaped super magnets, almost the size of your hand.
Seriously they were so strong, it takes nearly all your muscle to pry 2 apart.
Chuck one of them bad boys at a robot and watch it crunch into itself.

The robots still have a hard time recognizing objects around them. They are light years away from being able to use a fire arm. Some of them had a hard time operating a drill or a sawsall. Calculating path and leading a target with a gun is not even close.

http://www.pbs.org/video/2365670738/

Its more of the engineering difficulties of loading a device with dozens of sensors, a power source, dozens of motors and then having this multi-million dollar trash can lumber around that can get tripped up by a cracked sidewalk. The AI might be very smart, but the engineered components will fall short of what the human body can do.

The human hand is a pretty amazing tool, and the ability of skin to keep all of our tendons and muscles free from debris while providing many sensors about the object is far beyond what robots are close to.

A firearm would be way easier for a robot to use properly than a tool.

Think about it, aim and pull the trigger.

Aiming for a moving target would be near impossible with today's technology. Especially in a crowd of bystanders.

Plus the action of reloading or unjamming a firearm requires a delicate hand-like appendage.

they dont need accuracy when they have billions of bullets

True. But we aren't talking about today's technology. In 10 years 'today's technology' is going to look like a Windows 98 computer does to us now.

They could design a firearm specifically for a robot, so it wouldn't require such delicate motions to reload and such.

So your in denial then?
