Aye, like you say I'm sure it'll pretty much only be basics that are covered... though basics would probably extended to a fairly decent PC... etc.

But by the time that sort of thing is coming into play, the luxury items might be something like a personal spacecraft.... sooo there's definitely plenty of incentive to make a little extra money :awesome:

I will have a better Spacecraft than yours. :smugjerry:

Will have a crew of travelling scientists. I may be the only Human on board.

You are right, some 'basic' jobs would be more efficient to have humans do, while others would be more efficient to have robots do.

This would be in all fields of work/labor however, not necessarily only 'basic'.

Some manual labour isn't efficient to do with robots. It is unlikely you will have a robot to clean bathrooms, construction, or daylight underground utilities. Intelligent routing paths for something as complex as storing building materials outdoors for later use while working around other trades is tough enough for humans. Let alone for humans to program robots to do it effectively.

There was a story a while ago about a dude's dog taking a shit in his living room and then his Roomba spread it to every corner of the room while he was away at work.

That's an extrapolation that depends on the current extreme-for-profit antics to continue and that no major social structure change will be generated while the technology increases exponentially.

It is an inefficient use of society's resources to have a ballooned lower class that serve no purpose. They will be marginalized and eliminated when possible.

A socialist guaranteed minimum income might be enough for bread and to sit this useless class of people infront of TV and computer screens for enough hours a day to keep them out of the streets.

Maybe  We don't know really how good the AI might get in the next 30 years. It could become as extreme as a robot relatively priced the same as todays computers could perform all of a buildings maintenance and cleaning, and then it would be quite efficient.

that's basically what they do anyway

you come at this from a skewed perspective. There is no higher purpose to humanity that we can know. As far as we can be sure, like any animal we spread our genes, and we avoid pain and seek pleasure. Beyond that there's nothing.

If we consider joy and pleasure to be the best of possibilities and pain to be the worst, a world in which the maximum amount of pleasure is enjoyed is ideal. Thus, if we can support such a world, we ought to. Why not?

What does having everyone work for corporate monopolies achieve?

I don't believe they would be marginalized or illuminated, if their existence was supported by efficient resource usage. Conflict is driven by resource scarcity. If there is no resource scarcity, there is no need for conflict

Presuming that resources are continually shifted away from scarce to renewable ones (carbon structures especially), and that collectively owned automated systems create cheaply as much as is demanded of anything... there would be no reason for anyone to behave like lower class - the entire point of society would be to create a high quality life for everyone... not to build up profits for individuals. This change will be made realizable by more and more people being satisfied by what is easily acquirable. By that point I would presume we will be able to cheaply implement highly automated vertical farming systems locally... so more like, you go to your local farm and pick whatever you want out - not wait in line for bread  And TV and computer would more than likely be fairly passe, I imagine most would opt for VR at that point. Where you could play out your capitalist fantasies all you want if you like!

If you still have 8 billion people on the planet, there is still scarcity of water, food, arable land, oil, rare earths, and commodity crops. Free or low priced labour is only one variable in scarcity of resources.

To not have any resources as scarce is to do away with 300 years of economics.

Yea, basic resources would become readily available for everyone, poor or rich.

If nobody had access to free basic resources, they would be able to focus their time and effort, thought, onto their dreams. They would have no restraint.

As 'efficiency' rises, resources become less scarce.

The world is in agreement now to pull away from 'Fossil Fuels' over time and invest, eventually 100% to freely available energy (renewable).

I didn't say we also shouldn't keep populations in check. The idea here was that efficiency would rise. So what do you argue for then? A continuation of our current model and a fast track to annihilation and depletion of ALL resources?

Presuming an extremely powerful energy source is discovered in the next 30-40 years (fusion namely) then desalinization is nothing, so water is infinite, thus automated food systems would be easily sustainable, oil will be next to meaningless except for its 1-5% current usage as plastics, and rare earths are increasingly being replaced by carbon analogues... though rare earths are a misnomer anyway, they're quite common.

I think you are giving too much credit to humans and society in general.

As the population continues to grows, scarce resources become more scarce. You have to stop population growth first. Once that happens economic growth can only be achieved through productivity gains, but as we are very much over the long term carrying capacity of the earth I assure you it won't be the rich capitalist that die in culls.

When people are educated and satisfied, strangely enough, they stop breeding so damn much. Look at Canada, Japan, Nordic countries: their populations only grow because of immigration. We need fewer people to have children for anything to get better.
Pretty fascistic idea but maybe having children would be a privilege earned rather than a human right. I think, aside from the potential misuse of such a policy and the rather insidious implications it might carry, that would ultimately prove ideal.

Let the population drop down, without mass culling, without panic, and allow the less fortunate to enjoy their time here

I also agree.
No 'mass cullings' will happen, by intention.

If sperm germination rates were drastically reduced, we could have it much rarer for new human life.
At this point, in population, having children should not be a human right, rather privileged. Or when necessary.

These things all feed together, just as their absence feeds together to create shitholes like much of the Middle East

basic needs met, lack of starvation and obviously unfair resource distribution, lack of obvious excesses on the parts of some, fair treatment in law, open and free education, tolerance of genetic diversity and cultural heritage but also checks on those imposing their ways onto others, all feed together and result in safer more loving communities of individuals who see the value in what they contribute to, rather than despair at the meaninglessness or, worse, negative implications of their role in a much bigger game that treads on human rights in the sake of profits for a tiny minority etc

people are good, for the most part, when they are given the chance

The fall of capitalism we will see if Bernie Sanders becomes president.

The fall of America we will see if Trump becomes president. :lolsy:

I think either way we will eventually see change, though I don't see capitalism actually falling in a dramatic way so much as being slowly phased out over a couple of centuries

I think it depends largely on how quickly diversified and effective 3d printing becomes... If in 20 years someone can own a local 3d printing factory the size of a car garage that can literally print cars, ovens, fridges, TV's... well capitalism will take an interesting twist to say the least
