Finally found a decent firestarter * 1

And its pet bedding with a lighter and a can of aeresol deordorant.

Something as simple as woodchip pet bedding works so well for burning. It lights up quick when u hit it with an aerosol flamethrower.

The search is finally over. Next campsite adventure, im bring these three things :yesnod:

I recommend you melt some candlewax and then stir the liquid through fine woodchip pet bedding. You can compact this to a block or ball and let it solidify. To use, scrape off some chunks or set the whole thing on fire.

The stuff is waterproof and has an endless shelf life.

Also get your fire super fucking hot, let it burn down to mostly coals, then start throwing Sour Patch Kids on the coals. You may never eat candy again, especially if you do it while tripping.

When I'm in the woods I keep an eye out for pine pitch (sap/resin)

You can eat it
It makes good Firestarter
You can use it as a glue.

A bottle of lamp oil can come in pretty handy if you have a fire that's being kind of stubborn..

I second the dryer lint,then once your fire is going pretty good just toss that aerosol can in the fire and stand back. The fuller the better. Also second pine needles pile up a shit ton, throw them on and it's a mushroom cloud of thick smoke. Pretty cool

candle wax works really well too. Especially if you have a candle that's been burning that you can pour the wax on. Otherwise you can use the dry wax and crumble it up and put it on top of the wood. I used to do lots of camping in the wet part of Washington and Oregon.

If you find resin that is still sappy vs. when it hardens up it's also great for cuts of burns.  Pine needle tea is also loaded with vitamin C :thumbup:

And you can eat pine shoots (young new growth)  although I prefer spruce :smile:  haha


All you guys are naming household items not bush tricks.  If you can't light a household fire without special Firestarter,  you need to work on your fire skills.

:thumbup:  and shag bark etc..  there's a mushroom out there that ironically looks like a burnt chunk of wood that is supposedly good at starting and I think "transferring" fire.  I've not seen one and forget what it's called.  I'm sure someone will know..

Yeah there's excellent Firestarter to be found all over the woods, even in a rain downpour if you know what you're doing!  No need to pack wax or lint, although it's not go on a hurt to do so.
