Re: Is it best to pick abhorts ASAP or wait till the flush is over?

Read the mushroom cultivator and help to keep this board clear is basic questions.

(As a rule, an abort mushroom can be removed as long as the casing is not touched in the process.)

since you are probably using cakes let me restate. Aborts can be picked off with the first flush or soon after as long as the substrate is not over handled.

bbrand, some of the guys on this board can be jerks at times, just try to ignore them. In response to your question, its best to pick the aborts right before their heads turn black. The risk of contamination is small after the cake has been fully colonized because the mycelium is usually strong enough to resist most bacteria. Best of luck...

Thank you very much! That is exactly what I needed to know! I had forgotten that the mycellium does have the ability to resist other bacteria. Thanks again!

Unless the pin is actually rotting (not just turning black) wait and harvest everything at once. I know it's not what homey above said, but is my opinion

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

I would second the "wait till harvest" approach. Works very well for my FOAF.
