Re: At what point should I go to the ER *DELETED* [Re: refried]

IBS is pretty much non-specific bowel inflammation. So it's kind of a bs diagnosis in that it really doesn't tell you anything more, but kind of not. As for not being "serious" I beg to differ. The GI tract is a common source for inflammatory disorders due to how easily its modified by drugs and diet. The intestinal microbiome in particular plays a big role in modulating immune response on a systemic level. So I would check for obvious infections first. If nothing comes up put a lot more emphasis on eating a less inflammatory diet and more fermented foods and if that doesn't help cough up the cash for a stool analysis to see what's actually going on. That's what I did at least.

Actually I think for IBS specifically the FODMAP diet is supposed to be useful

QFT

I have had a lot of success alleviating my digestive issues/pain by modifying my diet. Avoiding gluten & nightshades helps me A LOT.

It's different for everybody though. Elimination diets are great for shedding light on what irritates YOU specifically.

A really good thing to keep in mind is that you're not supposed to feel sick, bloated, tired and gross after you eat. Instead of putting pills on top of those systems, we should instead be eliminating the foods that make us feel that way and introducing foods that makes us feel healthy, vibrant and enlivened.

Nightshades.  That's interesting.  I'd never heard of that before.

It makes sense to me about potatoes.  I was reading up on it.  But tomatoes are also included, which got me thinking about something else entirely:  Diverticulosis.  It's a very common issue in the elderly, but it happens to young people too.  For OP, I can't remember if you had a good CT scan done, but it would be possible to tell if you were having diverticulitis from reading that image.  Just a thought, since this thread popped up again.  I hope you're doing better.

Thanks. I did get a CT done and nothing useful showed up apparently. My GI is hesitant to shove cameras up in my body and to be honest I'm a bit hesitant too

I've been working on my diet for some time now. It's better, but I'm aware that I could do better too. I had eliminated gluten at one point and while it did help I'm not convinced that it was the gluten and not the bleaching agents that they commonly use in breads these days. This shit is tricky to figure out, especially because so many people say so many different things and the reality is no one really knows what is an okay diet for any one individual. :ohwell: It's definitely a work in progress.

I am definitely trying to pay more attention to getting some of that good bacteria though.

WHY?!

An endoscopy is quite a simple procedure, there's nothing to be afraid of. Your doctors sound like tools.

Most of them seem to be.

He said he doesn't want to do an endoscopy because he doubts it would find anything.

hey guys. I'm still doing alright. have pains that come and go but they typically aren't as severe.

But a thought occurred to me today.

I've known that I'm allergic to penicillin since I was a toddler. Do you think that the antibiotics in meat could be causing my digestive problems? Or largely contributing to them?

I cut out beef and pork a little over a year ago and noticed a huge help there. I assumed it was because of my gallbladder...

GI said the "intermittent bowel obstruction" isn't anything to worry about and thinks it's IBS and painful spasms.

IBS sounds like a bullshit diagnosis. And I really don't feel like it's spasms. Wouldn't I have much more pain in my lower abdomen if that was the case?

Which they just happened to miss on the ultrasound, which is why they did it >.>

Muscle spasms would feel like your muscles cramping, or at least contracting a lot.

You should be able to tell if it is muscular or not.

IBS means, well "bullshit" but I don't think anyone can really prove why people get it.

Again though, it doesn't fit the symptoms. Just google it and you will see where the pain should be coming from.

It is *not* sharp stabbing pains.

Fuck it though, you are better right?

My gallbladder was surgically removed. Shortly after surgery my bowel problems became considerably worse. I cut out fast food, beef, pork, and most of my caffeine and it eventually got better a little over a year later. I've been consistently having abdominal pains though.

I'm not quite ready to say "fuck it" but I'm not really sure how to proceed either.

Huh, interesting.

That could actually be a factor.

Reason is, your gall bladder releases bile, and fat digestion is assisted by bile.

So, if those were high fat diets it could cause undigested fat to pass through your system.

Fat can clump up and the bile prevents that.

Yeah I've noticed that if I overindulge in junk it will definitely come back to bite me. I'm generally more careful about it these days. Just sucks cuz I'm definitely a foodie.

But I think I'll go ahead and experiment with this when I'm feeling brave enough. Buy some grass fed beef with no antibiotics used and see what happens. I suppose I should also buy a "lean cut" and see what that does.
I'm already being sure that the only chicken I buy is antibiotic free. Honestly whether it has a notable effect or not there is no reason I should risk exposing myself to an allergen.

Oh and I looked it up. Apparently the FDA banned nonmedical use of penicillin in farm animals in 1977. But never enforced it. nice way to look out for the people guys.

I don't understand what you are worried about, here o.O

Are you allergic to something?

The fat could possibly happen to cause this again, but otherwise is mostly harmless.

It wouldn't happen every time necessarily.

You can pass undigested fat but sometimes it could do this.

Prolly more likely if it's a lot of fat consumed at one time.

Heh, on the bright side this means those meals are less calories for you if you can't digest all the fat ;3
