It looked like bullshit to me. They kept talking about a lot of different things that really didn't have anything to do with each other, and Marxist Capitalism was the first major clue.

A writing teacher I used to have would love this. I have to pass it along to her... she taught us a similar lesson in grade 12.

Brilliant thread, Phluck

Man I read that and re-read it and was thinking "I gotta enhance my vocabulary for sure if I wanna keep up in this forum now sheesh! dude what the fuck kinda shit is Phluck into these days......."

Ultimately I scrolled down to see if ANYBODY knew what you were talking about - heh turns out I'm not as insane as I had convinced myself for a moment   Bravo!

Politicians have a very similar way of acting..... they don't necessarily use big words and pretty language, but its like that math thing you were talking about (s,m,t,w...) where in order to get a thumbs up from their perspective, they have a lot of explaining to do

You are all missing the point. To see what I mean, consider that Lacan uses the term 'precultural theory' to denote not narrative as such, but subnarrative. Thus, the subject is interpolated into a neosemanticist paradigm of reality that includes narrativity as a whole. Besides, everyone knows that structural dematerialism kicks ass.

Hehehehe

Thank god it was completely meaningless. I read it and re-read it and re-re-read it. It didn't make sense to me, but I thought it was because of my bad English. I read (parts of) Capital: A Critique of Political Economy - Karl Marx... so I was totally .

I was just thinking, if I'd left it going for long enough, what kind of meaning would people have derived from it (if anyone had the patience).

I think that's what people have done with things like Nostradamus, and the Bible. They devote their entire lives trying to pull meanings out of these texts, and are able to find things to match their theories. You end up with roundabout explanations about how Nostradamus's words predict recent events, or the whole "Bible Code" fiasco.

This isn't really related to my first point... but it's another important issue.

Too bad you don't have any patience. You ruined endless amounts of potential amusement for yourself and others.

I'm glad i scrolled down to see what others thought instead of opening a new window and trying to define those BS terms with an online dictionary! Actually, all the words were real, they just werent being put together in a meaningful way.

but I had a feeling the shit was bunk. Usually i see things that are hard to read (like neuroscience research) and I dont get it at first glance, but I am rewarded when I actually try and think about it. This one was like all confusion and no reward. ouch.

Yes I think Mckenna did the same kind of thing with his Timewave to explain his perfectly reasonable novelty theory.... he just wanted to get a mathematical map for it but had to go to great lengths to create one heh..

He also addressed though that he feels this kind of extrapolation from nature is something that can indeed self-fulfil itself in reality - he was saying that using things like terot cards and i-ching and rolling dice and flipping coins and stuff with great focus can yeild and result ACTUALLY in the results one is looking for.

But uhh.... that would require all sorts of extra (extra-dimensional?) stuff going on in my opinion so i dunno lol

I've studied Mckenna extensively and personally had the idea that he *knew* his theory was bunk but he could never find anyone with any kind of expertise to disprove it. I looked at it as an expression of general trends in western society/beliefs(scientific and otherwise)being fulfilled through linguistic intent. ie: his pandoras box wouldnt even be opened by the ones who created it to begin with. Language.

I've never heared him say anything remotely like this...

I personally don't see how people misinterpret him so much. Every idea he put forth was clear and concise.

Thank god I was too lazy to even try to read into that before scrolling on. See, sometime being lazy saves you from meaningless work.
Peace.

"I've never heared him say anything remotely like this..."

Well that's nice: I guess you don't remember this - most relevant part of this file is at around 3:40 or so

Oh and I don't think he "knew" that novelty theory was bunk.. I think he just didn't like the attached Timewave much, but totally had faith in Novelty theory.

edit: by the way I don't know how much of his stuff other than general novelty I find very accurate heh other than some of his psychedelic blabber  - regardless he was quite the entertainer
