Good php scripts?

I need a good php script for my site. Suppozidly the new one I got is better, but I don't see it that way. I don't like my pics streched, and I want boarders around my pics to make it more asthetic and pleasing. My web-master guy doesn't really see things from my perspective and it makes things hard. Is it possable to piece tugether parts of good scripts to come up with a really good one?

Does anyone have any advise on scripts or anything?

you are looking for a CMS script ?
PhpNuke is probably the most popular and as such it has lots of addons and different layouts that you can use. It is not the best thing ever but its pretty nice. If you are willing to spend money vBulliten has a script that will tie in nicely to thier forum and is pretty slick looking.
