    #2233644 - 01/10/04 05:38 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

I was thinking of trying straight verm for a casing, I would love to hear some experiences people have had doing this. I have the fine kind, does that make a difference? thanks.peace

That is basicly what is done in the dunk and roll method.

I would give it a try if that is all you have.

Make sure you get it wet first, then sterilize it, before you use it.

I?ve never had a problem using straight verm as a casing material.

5th or 6th flush from these casings using straight verm.

You know I fill up a quart jars with verm and then fill them to the top with water. I let them sit so the verm is fully soaked then I drain out the water. I then add about half a inch of water to the jar and PC at 15 psi for a hour.
When they are done the 1/2 inch of water is gone and the verm has the right amount of moisture in it. I just let it cool and then use it no added spraying needed.
I cover the jars with tyvek just like any grain jar.

sweet allah magash ...what substrate is in those casings?

i used straight verm my first attempt with success...although my casings were not nearly as fruitful as mag's. i wet it and then put it in a covered tupperware type container and microwaved it for 4-5 minutes.
