I can see a pretty strong argument for the moral value of exposing all the cheaters so that their partners can realize the reality of their situation and be freed from a false life based on deciet. I can see a lot of women being grateful to know that their husband has been cheating and vice versa.

I think people have a right to know if they are being cheated on.

If my wife was cheating on me I would want to know so I could break up with her and move on rather then being trapped in a false marriage for potentially the rest of my life.

If someone hacked Ashley Madison and told me I was being cheated on I would be grateful.

I don't disagree with anything you said.  It is irrelevant to the fact that the hackers broke the law.  They should be put in prison.  I'm sick of hearing about this being hacked and that being hacked.  Chop their fucking fingers off.

Yeah, I feel like a site like that just existing is begging for trouble. That kind of shit needs to be kept on the DL. The USGOV pours billions (trillions?) of dollars into their cryptography mainframes to keep from spilling the beans they've gathered up on us and even that is not enough with all those whistleblowers running around.

The moral grounds that the hackers stand on is that you agree to be in a marriage. To remain in a marriage while secretly practicing infidelity is not only inconsiderate but cowardly and deceptive.

We do not necessarily agree to follow all the laws our government imposes, so one could say the hackers were acting in civil disobedience.
Also, we don't know the origin of the hackers so who is to say what laws apply to their conduct.
I think the people behind doing this should be commended for their actions.

The idea that just because someone does something illegal means they did something bad is entirely false. Marijuana users break the law but did nothing wrong and do not deserve to be punished.

In this case I think the  cheaters did something wrong and the hackers did not. In fact I commend the hackers.

Doing the right thing even when it is illegal is even more morally commendable.

What about us folk who grow or manufacture their drugs? (mushrooms, etc). That's sadly and certainly illegal.

Do you want to make adultery illegal? 

Adultery is a private matter between the parties involved.  Breaking into somebody else's database is expressly forbidden by law.  My attitude toward hackers is that they should be handed over to ISIS for punishment.  Who the fuck do they think they are?  Mostly a bunch of basement dwelling misfits with too much time on their hands.

Ashley Madison is a site that was made to lie, cheat, and go behinds the backs of many people. As many, many people on here have stated, something being illegal isn't morally wrong. What's morally wrong is when you hurt someone who most likely doesn't deserve it.

Not only was it illegal on the hackers' part, but it was a huge invasion of privacy. The reasoning is also ridiculous. Seems as though it was to prove their SJW credentials. Whether cheating is right or wrong has nothing to do with it. If you are against the NSA spying on you, you should also be against garbage like this. Infidelities are between the couple, not the entire fucking world.
