amanita pantherina

Hello. I live in Tacoma, WA, and I found some mushrooms growing in beauty bark under a bush, which I believe to be amanita pantherina. They look just like the pictures I've found of amanita pantherina (light tan or golden colored cap with white warts all over it, bulb at the bottom with a ridge at the top of the bulb, sort of a ring under the cap (sorry i don't know the proper names for this sort of stuff)) in a field guide to mushrooms and on the internet...they also fit the written description of pantherina...

my questions are:

How can I be sure this is amanita pantherina?

and, if it is,

Is amanita pantherina at all safe to eat for intoxication? What is the best dose and method of preparation, if so?

I am near you and have found them before. I do no t really trust using them. Take a spore print, it should be white. It sounds like you found one, but without a picture I could not be sure.

not all tan colored Amanitas are A. pantherina. To be [relatively] sure of the species, you will need to use a good key, and even then, i would not advise eating them, they are not the same as A. muscaria [which are not exactly safe as it is].

Anasasi, a sporeprint will not confirm the species, it will merely elp to confirm genus. there are potentialy deadly Amanitas which could easily be mistaken for panthers, so prudence is extremely important.

I seem to remember reading that A. pantherina contains muscarine, a toxin that causes mushroom poisonings. As concrete said, there are several deadly Amanitas that could be mistaken for A pantherina. I definately would not take my chances with this mushroom.
