LOL wtf, this box of macaroni and cheese tells me to put 1/2 a stick of butter in.

I dunno, for me a box of mac and cheese isn't like, super big. It doesn't fill up a whole bowl or anything.  Maybe equivalent to slightly less than half a box of other pastas.

This man n cheese box instructs me to add half a stick of  butter per box.  I found this out becasue my roommate made 2 boxes and added a stick of butter. 

FFS, think about how much butter you'd add if it was just normal pasta, 1/4 of that? 1/8?

this man n cheese box has lost its fucking mind.

I just looked it up the mac n cheese is 7.something ounces, so less than 1/3rd of a box lb of pasta.  I can't even imagine adding half a stick of butter to a lb of pasta.

That sounds fucking delicious.

I like 'mac and trees' instead - just use some cannabutter instead of regular butter and it'll be the best meal ever.

I made chocolate chip cookies a few weeks ago. For 60 cookies, the recipe called for two sticks of butter.

Yeah that is to make it as they want. They don't care about anyones weight and want it to taste as described. When I had to live off that shit in college I would do the light prep recipe and still use barely any butter. Maybe like 2 tbsp or so. Then add hot sauce.

I tried following their directions to a T before. I ended up this runny mess that reeked of butter. I think its a running joke with them.

Maybe the extra butter takes the place of (what I'd assume is) missing fat from the dehydrated cheese and milk mixture in the packet, to simulate the fat content of something made with regular cheese and whole milk or cream.  IDK just a guess.  For all I know the fat content of the dehydrated cheese and milk is similar to non-dehydrated.

You still toss in a quarter cup of milk.  In all honesty you can get away with 2 tbsp of butter and toss in an extra splash of milk and get the butter down to only slightly outrageous.  I've been through a few boxes in my time.  59 cents a box yo, right there with the ramen.

I don't either, unless I am eating just pasta with Parmesan cheese and a little butter for taste.

I stay away from butter as much as possible.  It is great if you need a huge boost in energy though, like if you're going to go cycle/run a ton make some buttered coffee and you'll have energy for hours.

None of the Italian recipes I make or know of calls for butter. Only the American variants do.
