Will they let me into a Nightclub with an expired permit?

I'm going to an 18 and over nightclub this Friday but my permit is expired and shit so I'm wondering if they will let me in even if it is expired... It is stills showing my identification on a valid form of ID right?

They might, depends on the doorman but legally the id has to be valid at least in my state

Usually no.

And you have like 10 days to change your ID the opposite way or they wont let you in, either. At least down here it's that way.

This is one of those things that doesn't make sense to me.

If you have a valid ID, why put an expiration date on it?

"Sorry, we can't let you in - you've turned sour."

"Your ID expired; it's not valid. How do we know you weren't reborn on a different date and now you're under 18 again?"

It's still you. You were born on a certain date. I don't understand what the big deal is about expiring things like this.

I have a clipped Minnesota ID i've never had trouble using in Florida. It expired about a year ago in July.

I don't have a picture Florida ID because I can't get a permanent license because of health issues, yet.

Depends on the establishment
most places will require a valid (not expired) ID
some places may let you in but won't serve you alcohol
and some places may reject you out right
but you may get lucky and they may not care/notice

Unlikely that anyone here has been to Echostage but if you are familiar with the venue/club do you think the folks at Echostage in DC would care if my ID was expired?

Do you have a passport? Those are valid for a fuck of a long time.

Also in Florida, the DMV will print you out an ID the same day, but Minnesota will mail you your ID 2-4 weeks later (LOL, its never 2-4 weeks, more like 2-4 months, lazy fuckin' government)

Just depends if they catch it or not and if they're going to actually adhere to it.

I never did make a habit out of checking expiration dates on IDs. I caught it a couple of times and refused the sale, but generally I just made sure they were of legal age and didn't worry about the exp. date (even though I'm supposed to).

Best advice, don't draw attention to the fact that it's out of date. That will almost surely prompt them to say gtfo.. That smells like a set up, like you want them to be aware of the fact that legally they're required to turn you away and if they choose not to, you (in their mind being an undercover on a sting, which does happen) have a rightful bust.

In MD they have to ship out an MVA permit via mail. Its fucking idiotic. We are like the richest state in the country and we are so cheap that they don't even want to print out your fucking new ID right there for you?

The MVA is so fucking inconvenient and incompetent.

Depends on the door person, if they're really cool then they'll probably give you a pass this time around. I've gotten let into places when I've been in that situation and they told me to get it fixed before I came back, but let me in at the door.

If you were 21+ and trying to get in somewhere then I seriously doubt it because then alcohol is thrown into the equation, but because you're underage and won't be able to drink there regardless it's possible you'll be okay.


Just go get it fixed at the DMV if you're in a state that does same-day printing(I thought all states did this, but I guess not?), as shitty as the dmv is you're usually in and out if you go at a time when it's not super crowded.

He already said his state won't print same day, Minnesota is the same way, however South Dakota, and Florida, both print same day. I'm not sure about RI because that's the only other state I lived in, and never bothered to get an ID or register my address with the state. Whoops.

Seriously though, a passport or something, anything with a birthday and a picture would work.

That's some bullshit, Penndot is the fucking worst but when it comes to printing out new ids, you're in and out in like 15 minutes.

But yeah, anything state-issued that's not expired. Idk how likely it is an 18 year old will have something up to date like a passport or state ID.

Worst comes to worst, op will probably save cover money and not have to endure some crappy overpriced nightclub he can't even drink at :shrug:.

Does a voter's ID card have a photo on it? I can't remember...

I had my passport at 16 :shrug: You never know.

Depends on where you are. Most places require it be current I'D.  Also depends on how much attention the bouncer is paying. Back when I bounced I wouldn't generally look at the expiry date unless I was already skeptical of it.

As for why they require it to be current. It's to prevent people from using someone else's expired I'D.  Most often it's a younger sibling who looks a lot like the older one.
