OMG, you can get those anywhere now. I think they have them at check cashing places for possibly $40-$50 bucks.

i mean i know you can get them at the post office... but i heard they were like 80 or 90 bucks.
does every check cashing place do them?

Just go to the MVD. I don't know how much it would cost you, but you'll get a legit one there for sure. Where are you off to?

thats kinda steep!
are you guys sure a check cashing place can do them cheaper?
i dont see how?
also.. does anyone know how long it takes to actually get it from start to end?

I just got one from the post office about two weeks ago. Since my old passport had completely expired I was charged an additional fee and my total was about $110.
Processing takes quite a while. If you want it in time for the symposium be prepared to pay an additional fee to get it in time.

does it really take 6 full weeks to get the passport?
i figure if i apply today or tomorow... thats basically 6 weeks till i have to leave... i should be alright and hopefully wont have to pay any extra fees.
which is bullshit if you ask me.

oh and i think that im going to have to pay the 97 dollars regardless of where i go... kinkos only does the pictures and thats 12 bucks for that.

Expedited Service - Add $60 for each application

yeah i just got back from the post office....
its 97 bucks... i have to turn it in today or tommorow... but i will be under the six week mark... im sure it will be sooner though.
they try and get you for an extra 15 bucks per person for the picture... but you can just print it up on your own as long as you follow the guidelines.

One last thing to add:
You may not want to spend the extra money for the express processing. However, if you look at this in the context of the entire trip it may be worth it.
That is, you're probably spending a lot of money for plane tickets, lodging, food etc. If you don't get the passport in time you'll lose all that money. In comparison to a several hundred dollar plane ticket, the additional express fee may be worth it.
