How are you supposed to pronounce "gif"?

I've never heard anybody actually speak it before and was curious.

I used to think meme was pronounced " mem-e"

A recent episode of big bang theory I saw a commercial for, they were arguing over how to pronounce this. I thought thats where you got the idea for the thread
