I'd imagine it's tons of mildew and dust. As far as I know, the janitor at my catholic school only ever hit the floors and bathrooms. No deep cleanings ever, and the attic was more dusty than I've ever seen. The building was established in 1904(?) per the cornerstone, and it seemed like some of the dust was almost as old.
