What do you look for in a good tube of toothpaste?

There are soooooo many kinds to choose from. It's true!
You can get stuff with H2O2, baking soda, fluoride, sodium monoflourophosphate, triclosan and/or a myriad of other sinister sounding compounds. You can get stuff to help sensitive teeth. Stuff to make your teeth whiter. You can get toothpaste with sparkles, toothpaste that tastes like bubblegum or red hot cinnamon, toothpaste with a blue and red stripe in it.
It is truly staggering the variety to be found...
So what do you look for in a good tube of toothpaste?

I usually just look for one that says AQUAFRESH on it.

YEah why no fluoride? Fluoride is good for you. It makes me happy knowing not only does NYC have some of the cleanest metropolitan tap water around, but that it also has a nice high fluoride content count.

What?
Well, in case you didn't know it, fluoride is highly toxic. In fact, before fluoride was deemed a "cavity fighter," it was used as insecticide and rat poison. It's true. Even more surprising is that when it comes to dental hygiene, fluoride actually does more harm than good.

Fluoride is a byproduct of the manufacture of coper, iron and aluminum, the whole idea that fluoride is good for you cane about in the '30s with the 'better living through chemistry' school of thought, the same ones that said cigarettes soothe the throat. The problem with fluoride back then was 'safe' disposal, can we guess how it was achieved?

i wouldn't say the case is cut-and-dry (chk out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_fluoridation_controversy for a good listing of many of the arguments for and against),
but after researching it a bit myself, i've decided there is no point taking it into my system if at all possible. same w/ aluminium in deodorant

Someone once told me that you needed fluoride in my teeth to make a "fluoride-calcium bond". I asked a doctor and she said that's called "fluoride poisoning".
Fluoride fucks with in your penal gland, which puts the a damper on cultivation of spiritual energies. None for me, thanks. Well water and ayruvedic tooth paste for me.

Well I guess I'm a freak... I usually go for the best flavored stuff. I could care less what's in it. Currently I'm using colgate herbal which is minty licorice flavored, doesn't have fluorine in it.
But yeah i go for the cinnimon hot stuff too. Why not?

No, no, no... Flouride uptake aides in remineralization to areas on the exposed tooth surface (either enamel or cementum). It can also heal incipient carious lesions. Being anti-flouride is actually common, but it's for stupid reasons. Why do you think several communites have added flouride into their tap water system to prevent cavities, SEVERAL studies have shown this plan has dramitcally decreased caries (or what the general public calls cavities).
Yes flouride can be fatal in excess. But guess what, everything is bad in excess.
Flouride rocks, its vitamins for your teeth, like calcium for your bones. So, my advice is, toothpaste with flouride is great. IMO, the best toothpaste would be Arm & Hammer Toothpaste Enamel Care, the stuff works wonders for your teeth!

Do you realize that in addition to fluoridated water, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk, ice cream? Ice cream, Mandrake! Children's ice cream!!

You know when fluoridation first began?
Nineteen fortysix, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your postwar commie conspiracy, huh? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual, and certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard core commie works

No doubt!! NYC has got the best tastting tap water that I have ever had. It surprised me to find that out, but wow! That is some good water.
Back on topic, I usually use Crest Complete, but I change it around periodically. It doesn't really matter to me just as long as I brush at least twice daily. People that don't brush their grill are way down the line as far as people that I want to talk to. Especially close up conversation.

toms of maine is the only toothpaste that i've used where, after you have eaten, your teeth and mouth still feels clean. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it's really a lot harsher to switch to comercial brand tooth paste after bieng on toms for awhile...
i'm gonna go brush now...
