Humboldt hunt (pictures)
    #2131509 -

I just got back from hunting up in humboldt county.  This was my first real road trip to hunt for the food of the gods.. and it was a blast.  I didn't find any actives  :frown: but it was still an awesome trip.  We found some beautiful shroomies, and got to see a lot of great scenery in the process.  I hope you guys enjoy these pictures.  Any tips of what kind of mushrooms they might be would help greatly.  Is the one in that third picture reishi?  I've looked at pictures of reishi and it looks a lot like it, but the color is a little darker than the reishi i have seen.  Also, do any of those look edible?  Thanks for the help guys.

Without spore prints, wild guesses are about all you'll get on those.

#3 looks like a reishi, although pretty dark. The odds are that it's Ganoderma oregonense, which David Arora says is the most common of the similar species in that part of the country. It's typically darker colored than reishi.

#4 and #5 we won't be able to do anything with. The underside of the cap is usually more important for IDing than the top. We really need to see the gills and stem and ring and stuff like that.

#6 suggests Clitocybe.

#7 looks like a Cortinarius.

I wouldn't eat any of those. None of them resemble any of the good edible species, at least from what can be seen in those photos.

If you're interested in learning about the edible mushrooms, check out your local mycological society. They'll have people there who will be happy to show you how to find and identify the worthwhile edibles.

Happy mushrooming!
