Reishi? I think so. (Updated with more pictures)
    #1706842 - 07/11/03 06:51 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

I'm hoping someone can positively identify this mushroom as a reishi, and give me the okay on making some tea. I love the dryed and bottled reishi, so I am eager to try some wild reishi. These were found in Georgia, habitat as pictured....

Nice find. It appears it could be
a Ganoderma lucidum. Was
it growing near or beneath
a hardwood tree?

Its a Ganoderma, but probably not a G. lucidum. Regardless of the species, it should still hold the same medical properties as the chinese reishi.

G. Lucidum this time i think.... [Re: Remy]

I found these a couple of hours ago in my own backyard. The caps have a lot more red to them and they were growing from a dead tree, which leads me to believe these are indeed g. lucidum.

two stalked specimens...

Yessir. Tea from the top two pictures. I would like to try my hand at growing these. Any idea how people obtain the mycelium syringes?

As far as I know, normally syringes contain a suspension of spores in water. For advice on cultivating you should probably start a thread in one of the Cultivation Forums.

One can also create a mycelium suspension in water and use it for inoculations.

You can buy a mycelium syringe at sporeworks.

Do a Google search on reishi.

The Chinese refer to this mushroom as the "Mushroom of Immortality", and ascribe all sorts of medicinal properties to it. It's usually used to make a tea.
