The Oscars

Anyone think the Oscars are kind of a joke?

I can dig a public celebration of film but it seems more like a circus than anything. Who in the fuck cares about what some celebrity is wearing to an awards show.:slider:

Some people feel so inadequate about their own lives that they find comfort and meaning by emulating the "successful" people. This is why people watch the oscars. Other people just like to be in on the conversations at work the next day.

The oscars are for woman , my grandma and sister watch that shit.

I think its nice to give an award for the best movie , but who cares what they're wearing when they get the award.

IMO celebrities at the oscars should all dress like homeless bums simply to show appreciation for those who can't afford to watch their films because even the homeless deserve recognition.

Actually they are. They make millions of dollars doing what they love, and gain a whole lot of freedom to live whatever lifestyle they choose. Besides, how many do you actually know in person? They're people like the rest of us that happened to make it big. Some are undoubtably douchebags, but many are probably cool. Whole lot of jelly in this thread.

I watch the awards part of it sometimes. The red carpet stuff is just real dull for me, but hey, I was raised to think that after all

Like everything else in life, its a joke unless you specifically care about it
I like a lot of things that are total jokes to other people I'm sure

You're right I never looked at it like that. If I ever got rich I'd keep doing the samething I'm doing now. Same house same everything

Don't really pay any attention to the Oscars but saw that J.K. Simmons won the Best Supporting Actor for Whiplash. That was cool to see because Whiplash was a well directed movie and Simmons did a damn good job as the Fletcher character.

Watching now.

One of my favorite perspectives of the Oscars belongs to Woody Allen. Nominated like 20 times, having won 5, he's never accepted an Oscar. He says that if he starts accepting them, it means that he'll accept people's opinions when they think he's doing great. The converse of that is that he'd have to accept their opinions when he's doing bad. Woody Allen makes movies and he JDGAF.

Another guy who could though is Marlon Brando. He rejected both of his best actor oscars.
