Heads vs. Feds: A Legalization Debate
    #2126611 - 11/21/03 12:50 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

I just got back from a school sponsored debate on marijuana legalization, entitled "Heads vs. Feds," featuring Steve Hager, editor-in-chief of High Times magazine, against some retired DEA agent whose name I can't remember. Both debators were very prepared and organized. The DEA guy's argument basically seemed to center around the idea that marijuana has negative health consequences and that if it is legalized, the number of users will go up, leading to a bigger health care problem in the country, as well as more car accidents and addicts. He said that even if it is less dangerous than alcohol or cigarettes that we'd be adding yet another dangerous drug in the mix. I asked him during the Q&A part of the debate why I shouldn't have the right to do something that's unhealthy. He basically responded in the same way luvdemshrooms responds to welfare: it's not in the Constitution. Anyway, afterwards I got autographed copy of High Times from Steve Hager. I don't really have a point here, but I just thought I'd share.

Yet another mistake from you. There is a difference if you care to see it.

The constitution prohibits the government from doing anything not specifically granted in it. It does NOT forbid people from doing anything. The constitution is a limit on federal government powers, not a limit on the actions of the people.

Read the 10th as many times as needed for it to sink in.

No shit?

And it was fairly interesting up to the point where you made a stupid comparison. You really need to try and stop attempting to zing me. It's obvious you suck at it.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers
