AA PC valve
    #21264421 -

I'm new to using a PC for sterilization of substrate/jars. I have an AA 925 that's been In my family

since 1950's. I ordered a new lid with parts and the new one has the pressure release valve with the

weight, where as the original lid had a pressure release valve with a "toggle".

I remember reading somewhere that the weight can let to much steam escape and ruin moisture

content in jars, and let contams in as unit is cooling. Is this true about valve with the weight? Should I

put old school valve on the new lid? Advice/suggestions much appreciated!

I am by far, not a professional, though, I did manage to sterilize without a pressure cooker. If you're losing too much steam, let it go a little longer than usual. Just make sure you have enough water to where it won't run out of steam and dry out. That will cook your substrate and potentially crack your jars.

I let me jars cool outside of the pressure cooker, on a freshly sterilized surface. Even if it wasn't freshly sterilized, the vermiculite filter is there for a reason, ya know?

If you know how to use it with the weight you will be ok. There is a way to let steam escape at a constant slow rate.

The toggle and weight are interchangeable. I personally prefer the toggle over the weight so I switched mine out and never went back.
