    #2126157 - 11/20/03 11:15 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

I found these guys growing under a tree with some leaves and twigs.
It looked like they were growing from the soil. Oh, in Washington state. The cap was a caramel color turning white at the edges.
gills were attached, a creamy grey brown color. the stem was hollow
turning brown where damaged. the cap is turning a white yellow color
wile drying. spore print is dark purple. any help would be apreciated.
thanks.

They are not active. I live in washington state as well, and I have seen these, but I never properly identified them, sorry.

from what you have given and what i can infere from the pictures, they are either a Psathyrella or a Naematoloma. i would lean toward the later, but i could be wrong. in either case, as was stated above, they are inactive, but fun to try to id .

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

I'll go with Psathyrella over Hypholoma, mostly because they were growing from soil and not wood.

Nice photos, and interesting specimens.

Happy mushrooming!
