because you cannot master the endless. there is no ultimate poem. while philosophy strives for an ultimatum, poetry derides the chance.

Nonsense. No wonder redgreenvines is so quick to defend it. It's not even clear what you mean by endless, ultimatum and chance. I think you're just scrambling to pull something together to fit the careless statement you made above. Mastery means having authority or advanced skill or knowledge of something. This can be had of poetry as well as philosophy, chess, language or painting, etc. You sooner say that mastery of these things is not possible, because they are not fully terminable. Well, what is terminable? Language is endless yet you arguably master English. According to you no interminable subject can be mastered and the concept of mastery is useless. Why not just say "mastery doesn't exist" instead of trying to pin this on poetry. (Although even that would be mistaken.) The amount of malarkey I've read in this thread is the only endless thing here.

you bleed rather freely too, don't you?

i said it was an oxymoron. not that it's not possible or that it doesn't exist. i said that you cannot master endlessness, not that you cannot master poetry.

read more carefully.

mostly I am certain you have a view of me that is other than possible.
I never use such words as endless, ultimate, or mastery.
These do get in the way of a close approximation to anything real.
and that is what both philosophy and poetry want to do.
