Well this thread didn't work.

Let me see if I can get it back on track.

When Cash Money released the Hot Boyz album I was around 11-12 years old.
I went to a predominantly black middle school, and that album was being listened to every kid there including myself.

I've listened to a few songs recently, and they still remain pretty decent to me. Don't know if it's just nostalgia.

Offspring - Americana was my album of choice at the time though.

With the Hot Boyz and the offshoot 504 Boyz (I wonder why they used so many z's instead of s' back then) Wayne was far from the star as Juvenile, BG, & Turk actually were talented. IMO anyways.

Fast forward a couple years and The Carter came out. Wayne's first solo album. He had some great lyrics (according to my under developed cognitive areas of the brain at that age), but Mack Mayne's beats and Wayne's different flow from what was going on at the time on the radio made it for an interesting album...in a good way.

Then we go to the pinnacle of Wayne's talents (not saying much) with The Carter II. I truly became a fan when that was released, and so did all my white friends wearing throwback fitted hats :lol:

Great album though. Mostly because of production and beats. Songs like Best Rapper Alive, Hustler Muzik, and Shooter had a good run in my life. Fireman did was well, but that song was shit.

I still put on the Carter II album on once a in a while. It's good stuff regardless of if you like Wayne or not. Mostly because the best songs on that album were collaborations.

Then came the mixtape years. Highlighted by the Drought tapes. Bad production, but still listened to it because he used all the most popular beats at the time from other songs with the same type of flow from the Carter II.

Carter 3 I listened to because after all, Carter II was a transformative album in my life. Well it was complete fucking shit, and has every mixtape and album released from him since then! :crankey

I've caught a couple songs from him on youtube since the debacle he called music in the Carter 3. Strange Clouds ft B.O.B. is a song that comes to mind that I enjoyed for a bit but (Only really because of B.O.B's chorus)

With all this shit I stated above that no one will read, let me answer OP's question.

Wayne has been in a dispute with Cash Money Records for close to a year now. This isn't news.
Wayne wanted to release the Carter 5 in August of last year I believe, and Baby keeps postponing it so it doesn't overlap with other artist's singles or albums on the same label.

If you read what I wrote above you know I thin Weezy has been a talent less hack for several years now, so I personally don't give a shit what he does with his career.

Now looking at it from an unbiased point of view. No, he's not committing career suicide.
His fanbase, although smaller now, is still enormous and him making music for himself again is probably the best idea he's had since fell off.

Now I'm going to shoot myself in the face for having written a god damn essay on the shroomery about Weezy Fucking Baby
